Frank- I'll take a shot at some of your questions.
(hunter) Can he adjust and can he stay healthy?
I really feel like he can, and I have good reason to believe in him. No he doesn't have the standout tools that Hoskins had; on the other hand...he doesn't have to. Like I said, this is a different year for Middlesboro football. Its going to be a team effort. We don't have 3 or 4 studs to carry the load as we have had in the past. Ultimately I believe that has killed Middlesboro in the post season. Hunter will not have the same pressure on his shoulders as Hoskins had. All hunter needs to do is correctly read the option behind a powerful O-line, develop the ability to play-action pass, and not turn the ball over. Of course he will have growing pains early in the season, but he'll get it done.
I agree 100% about our defense.....it sucks. We've had very few groups of players come through the program in the last 10 years that could successfully run that blitz parade (cough '98). But you know as well as I do, nothings going to change.
Good point about the G.P.A, that does make me a little nervous, who knows how that will pan out????
Eddie Gilbert will be playing WR, and I might add he has been doing pretty well. He played WR in the passing scrimmage they had at Pineville before the dead period. Eddie is a athlete and a competitor, that alone will be transparent in his play.
"New coaches on board, how will they do?" Your 100% correct about David Kelly, he will do wonders. The players really respect and LISTEN to him because they know he's been there and they know he was a heck of a football player in the same system. I think Roark will defiantly use the backfield effectively. Roark loves the ground and pound and if you look at the composition of this team (thin at WR, Rookie QB Vs. Senior O-line, talented Rb's) you'll see they are well suited for the run. I think both backs will have a solid year and I too am excited to watch Brennan run. It is also very important that Hunter can develop into a play-action passer as I said above. This is will keep defenses honest.
Your right, it will be very hard to beat Corbin for the district but games ARE NOT played on paper. Corbin has all the makings to be a tough team because they return so many players, but I don’t think I’m going out on a limb when I say...They weren't "great" last year, so no reason to lay down for them this year. I have a lot of respect for Corbin, but anytime these two programs meet, anything can happen.
