  1. Does the cannon have enough fire power to cross a lake? Could make for an intersting night.
  2. There are currently two issues with signs that I am aware of. The one sign needs to go back up on the building and I know that is currenlty being worked on. Unfortunately it has not been an easy task and I am sure those of you that have been involved in the last few weeks of renovations know what I am talking about. Somehow this all needs to be worked out and hopefully it can be before the playoffs start. It may even invlove a number of volunteers once again getting together to get it accomplished, however if that is what it takes I am confident that we can get a group together to make it happen. The other sign was was nothing more than a misunderstanding and plans are already in place to correct the issue. I will tell you that both sponsors have been more than cooperative and understanding and we all appreciate their continued support of our athletic teams at Highlands.
  3. I thought that Holmes played a great game tonight and that they can come away of many possitives. Most everyone was saying that this would be a total blow out and although the score might let people think that, holmes hung tough through every down. Coach Lickert has a great deal to work with and I as a birds fan can only hope that that over the next few years he gets the program to where we can all say that this is the biggest rivalry of the year. Great game Coach Lickert and good luck to the Bulldogs for the remainder of the year.
  4. The admission charge is $5 and the Boys/Girls BB program are running concessions tonight at game
  5. I can not believe that the No. Ky Jazz is not getting any respect. How can you not have them as one of the favorites. Not only won it last year but have added much more talent this year.
  6. That is not all I remember and all stated facts above are correct. Take nothing away from any of the players or the teams on the floor. Both teams played hard throughout the game. In any game good and bad calls are made and good and bad plays are made, in the end PC is a very good team on their home floor and HHS played them very strong. I personally think that Belcher is very talented and has the opportunity to play beyond High School. I wish him and the rest of PC the best for the remainder of the year. The Birds need to continue to work hard and still could very easily surprise some teams come tournament time.
  7. Scott Wise was not at the game last night, I believe he was on a college visit. I do not recall any pre season hype about the center position being the key to success this year. This team is very athletic and the more they use their atleticism the better they can be. I would love to see them play at a much faster pace regardless of who is on the floor.
  8. I am not saying that he does not have great footwork and that he is not a great player, both of those statements are facts. The other facts are that he obviously did walk at least twice in the game. Once he stumbled and fell into a HHS player and the block was called, the other he was making a great attempt to save the ball out of bounds and he skipped on one foot at least three times, both of which were obvious travels that were not called. In both cases he was attempting to make an athletic play and just got his feet tangled. In no way is this implying that he is not a very good player.
  9. I don't think anyone can say that Highlands beat on anyone all night long. The referees allowed Belcher to do almost anything he wanted all night long. He was allowed to hook in the post to get to the basket, he was hammering players as they drove to the basket, (I think only had one foul called on him), and allowed to walk with the ball numerous times without it being called. The one travel was crucial with the game still up in the air and he hopped about 3 times right in front of the referee and it was not called. The next HHS possession the same referee called a travel on HHS that was very questionable. Belecher did shoot well from the free throw line, however he was put on the line quite frequently. Were they legit fouls? Probably, however he was returning the favor quite often at the other end and they were not being called. All in all, HHS played a very spirited game and they continue to improve each week. The offense looked to be more active most of the night and a number of players stepped up and made some shots.
  10. I spoke to members of the Jr Football League committee and they seemed to be somewhat interested. The details would need to be worked out but I think it would be much better to utilize the existing structure and resources to make the league stronger more quickly. The coaches would be selected just as they are now in Jr Football, hopefully a number of former palyers and parents that have an interest in the basketball program at Highlands would step up to coach. I think the bigger problem with the league after the city took over was poor management and not as much to do with the coaches.
  11. I agree that Coach Schlarman can be more active in the community and at the school to help promote the basketball team. However, he is not the one responsible for the Junior Basketball League not being in Ft. Thomas nor is he responsible for starting the league again. The ft. Thomas Jr Football League is run by a bunch of dedicated and hard working parents that want nothing more than to have their kids play football at Highlands. Yes, Coach Mueller fully supports the league and in most cases goes out of his way to make the league better but he is not involved in running the league or was he involved in starting it. The leauge was around well before Dale ever coached at Highlands and I am quite confident that he actaully played in the league as a kid. There was at one time a Ft. Thomas Jr Basketball League and it was a great success and it may not be a coincidence that the basketball program was in better shape at that time. The downfall of the league was when the city decided to take it over and a few years later the league was gone. If enough people really care about the league and truly thought it would help then they should get together and get it organized, possibly under the Ft. Thomas Junior Football League umbrella. I have discussed this with the committee and really feell it would be a great help to the Basaketball Program at Highlands. The real problem is everyone wants to complain but no body wants to step up and do what is right to fix the issues.
  12. I as much as anyone would like to see more kids play both ways, however, in years past all I keep hearing was that the only way that we can compete with teams such as Elder and St. X is to not have so many play both ways. I think when Coach Ramsey made the comment that this was the best Highlands team that they have played, he did not come from the fact that we have the most talented individual players. Don't get me wrong we have some outstanding players, (ie: Jordan Kramer) but do we have the talented players such as Jared, Derrik, and Gino, I don't think so. I believe that this team is stronger as a group of 22 then any of those other teams, therefore that is why Coach Ramsey made his comment. If some of these kids did play more both ways could it help our offense some, I think so. However, does it hurt our defense some, I think so. If by playing more kids both ways and we score one more touchdown per game and give up one more touchdown per game have we gained anything? I believe towards the end of the year you will some more players going both ways sparingly. The idea of developing depth and keeping guys fresh for the entire year will go a long way in helping us achieve our ultimate goal of #17. If you have the talent you should use it. Now that we have the talent on this team and the JV and Freshman teams, I think the days of playing both ways are gone for at least awhile at HHS. This alone will allow us to better compete with the much bigger schools in the GCL.
