Isn't Jody the AD @ West Jessamine? If things were that unorganized then perhaps he felt that there were no assistants on staff capable of running the program and perhaps felt that it was his responsiblity as the school's AD to bring some stability to the program for the remainder of the year or for such as when a permanent replacement is found.

Coach Hamilton is a great guy and will work extremely hard to be successful.
His accepting the football coachig job speaks highly of his character and his concern for the kids. Everyone in the commmunity should get behind him and the West Jessamine program and give them their support.
    I wish him the best.

I have the upmost respect for Coach Hamilton. He is ALL about the kids. He has a passion and tremendous gift to get the most from his players. I wish him the best. I know with coaching baseball he has been a big help to me personally over the last 3 years!

I just read the article and see that Coach Stevens will be staying on as an assistant. This is a bad idea. Too many chiefs not enough indians. I see that they only siut up 25 players, that in and of itself speaks volumes about the coaching staff and state of the program. West is a large school and there has to be a reason that players are not coming out. A change at the top may inspire some kids to come out and help next season. Winning breeds excitement and interest in the program. I know Coach Hamilton and he is a great person and will do what is best for the program and the players. They probably will not have a successful season this year, but Coach Hamilton will find someone to bring that football program up. That is just my opinion. On the other issue about animosity between Football coaches and baseball coaches I believe that that comes from Football needing the players year round and taking offense to any player that chooses to play Summer baseball. Football coaches in general ask their players to lift weights and condition for 41 weeks to play a 10 week schedule. If anyone is hording athletes in the state of Kentucky it is Football.:flame:

I think that I speak on behalf of alot of COACHES (from all SPORTS) when I say this.... football is a demanding sport - but it does not hord athletes from other sports because of weight lifting. Every coach will tell you that they want their players in top physical condition - THEY WANT their players in the weight room working out to PREVENT injury. IN fact, a lot of football coaches want their players playing multiple sports - NOT JUST ONE, because doing something repeative over and over again will cause injury. (Your players that do play multiple sports are your most athletic) There are many players that are now playing at the college level and pro, and I would say that a high percentage played more than one sport. To say that football is hording athletes in this state is TOTALLY FALSE. - The regular football season only last for 10 weeks, whereas basketball, baseball, soccer play almost year round in different leagues - THAT IS HORDING athletes:flame:

You must not coach. If you did you would have a clue on the issue of hording. Sorry....you're wrong on this one.

This may be the case at some schools but with the fact that football gate is typically a large percentage of the revenue that funds high school sports programs . Baseball should be thanking the football programs. Baseball is typcally one of the lower revenue producers (some don't collect gate money at all).

football gets 10 days to practice in the spring. Atheletes can lift before or after baseball or basketball practice. You got fall baseball, AAU, open gym, summer leagues, etc. a kid can play on 2 or 3 different basketball or baseball teams a year. Imagine the 9 kinds of "heck" that would be raised if a football team went over 10 days in the spring, or lined up in a formation before the middle of July. Hording????

Gentlemen, the debate on sharing student-athletes, may be a very good topic for another thread, if someone wants to start one.

Let's get back to the West Jessamine coaching situation....

I don't know much about the individuals involved with the situation is Jessamine. I feel for the players who may loose the opportunities provided by continuity and focus..... although I do think from adversity grows greatness....This is a great lesson for the players involved, you either quit and take the position you couldn't impact the season or you redouble your efforts, work harder, work as a team, and take all you can from a not-so-great situation.
