    St. X. 42 Male 6 (JV)

After defeating Cincinnati Moeller 31-4 on Saturday, the St. X. JV's came back with one day's rest to roll over what was supposed to be a good Male JV squad by a 42-6 margin. Coaches Shutte and Harris really have these sophomore Tigers playing great on both sides of the ball.

Let me ask the perfunctory question: Did any juniors play for either side?

None for St. X., but there were a few from Male.

X will play the Generals, but only if Washington agrees to not play any juniors.

Looks like another attempted Trinity threadjack. The topic is St. X./Male JV game.

Does Redmon not put much emphasis on Male's JV? Each year that I can recall when we scrimmaged them, they have not been very good (our freshmen beat them this year). Yet when they become seniors, they generally are a very good team. Any Male fans want to provide any input on my question. Its not intended to be an attack in any degree. Just trying to understand how much emphasis Male places on its JV team. Some teams place a lot of emphasis and others do not. Or are Male's JV struggles caused by the fact that a lot of the better sophomores are on the varsity squad this year and are not playing JV ball?

If you play varsity at Male and you're of any value to Bob Redman you don't play freshman or JV ball. By the same token, if you're the backup QB and you're a junior, he'll send you down to get some reps with the JV's. Still a great win for the JV Tigers. Future certainly looks bright with this group of sophmores.

I thought Buehner looked great throwing the ball both short and long. (no miss print the JV's pass the ball). Conley made a highlight reel touchdown run and Neal ran well. The O line is as big or larger than the varsity and the blocking on sweeps were text book. Gray is another super place kicker for the Tigers who catches punts and touchdown passes in his spare time. A very solid team overall.

St. X's JV's look promising. At St. X, grade level is a significant factor to determine what level of team a player is on. At St. X, freshmen play on the freshman team, sophomores on the J.V, and junior and seniors predominantly on the varsity. Freshman and JV programs are not an end in themselves, but part of a program. At other schools, more freshmen and JV's play on the varsity level. Comparing schools JV programs as a basis of overall strength of the varsity is not necessarily valid. Comparing JV programs and the school's varsity can can be like comparing apples and oranges. Football is a little different, I believe, because it can be such a numbers game. If every level of the school's football program is fundamentally sound and has quality coaching and players, I think this would say a lot about the school's program and probably the strength of the varsity team. But just because one school's JV is better than another school's JV doesn’t mean that the varsity will be better as well.

Sounds like a woodshed trip for the bulldogs. Do I sense a shift in the force?

Thanks for actually giving us info on the game.

Any other standouts to tell about on this jv team?
