They are still under rule of the KHSAA no matter how you look at it. Who are the refs, the coaches? Do you see what I am saying? Any formed games are governed by the KHSAA therefore must abide by the KHSAA rules. Like I said earlier, we have played other freshman games in the past where the other team had to bring down soph to play a freshman game. In those games our 8th graders were not allowed to play. Sorry, that is the rule. If Ludlow allows this 8th grader to play in this so-called Fresh/JV league they better make sure of the ruling in regards to "non-varsity" terminology. It would be ashame to be suspended for playoffs due to playing this 8th grader in a game that means nothing except for players to get some needed experience. Now that everyone and their brother knows about this they will be watching and will not hesitate to turn them in, that's the way of the world, unfortunately.

They should check w/Coach Schnieder or Coach Spritzky to make sure before they play this 8th grader, just my opinion!!

Im sure they did probably already check all these things ahead of time. All these schools probably have an 8th grader or two that plays. So I pretty most of them would have all looked into that already, because Im sure your not the only one who knows this..

8th graders can play at any level except the varsity level. They can play frosh and JV football. Just not varsity.

I understand what your saying about the size and mental maturity vs. older players. I think that if you look you'll find that there are very few cases of 8th graders playing JV football other than the very small schools like Bellevue, Ludlow, Dayton, Brossart, etc. If these schools didn't let the young kids play up they would have difficulty fielding a JV team. Then how do you develop your younger talent for the varsity level?

I'll throw a name out though from a large school that played JV as an 8th grader, a young man named Scottie Gray. I don't think it hurt his psyche too much. Now I'll agree that at larger schools it is the exception, not the rule, that someone so young would be able to sucessfully compete at the JV level.
I appologize for not having the intellegence that you posses when interpreting rules set by the KHSAA. Everyone knows how clear they always are. Anyway, JV(junior VARSITY) contains the word varsity, obviously. As someone else also agreed, an 8th grader can not participate in football or soccer above the freshman level.

You mention Scottie Gray(Ryle), I must be getting old because I don't remember him playing JV as an 8th grader. I will find out for sure as I have a direct line to one of the commissioners to get a proper interpretation.

Update: by KHSAA rules an 8th grader can not practice/play against an athlete in the 11th/12th grade or anything labeled varsity. Otherwise, it is the board of edu's decision to allow them to practice/play against 10th graders.

I assume Beechwood has a rule then that the 8th graders can not play against the 10th graders.

He could have played, could he have played well was what I was getting at. Any skill position would be tough with a cast, not to mention a pad that would have to go over top of the cast.
