A win is a win and that's what Hopkinsville needed in their district opener. Still got a lot of work to do.
Ugly 1st half for the Tigers. Opening drive took deep into Ohio Co. territory but missed a FG. 2 drives later turned it over inside their 25 giving Ohio Co. the short field resulting in their only score of the night. Midway through the
2nd quarter Hopkinsville drove it inside the Ohio Co. 20 but a tip ball was intercepted taking away another scoring opportunity for the Tigers.
Hopkinsville got it rolling when they went to their 2 minute offense. In that series QB Marshall Stewart twice stood tall in the pocket and delivered to well thrown balls for completions. Hopkinsville put 10 quick points on the board in the final 1:10 of the 1st half to take a 10-7 lead into the half.
Hopkinsville came out in the 3rd and took the opening drive into Ohio Co's end of the field before turning it over on downs. Hopkinsville put the game away with an interception return for a TD by Junior CB DeShawn Johnson (60-70 yard return). And a punt return for a TD by Junior (WR/FS) Vic Moulden.
Defensively Hopkinsville got good play from Junior LB Joe Harris and Junior NG Dee Allen. Defense still has some issues to shore up especially with the offense not being there yet.
Offensively Hopkinsville got better QB play and the run game was solid. They just lack that explosive type of RB they've had throughout the years. They got quick backs with descent speed but not "special" type of back. The running game is farther along now then I thought it would be but the passing game isn't there but the game is starting to slow down for QB Marshall Stewart. Kyle Graham has come in the last 2 weeks and thrown the ball well and generated some offense through the air.
Hoptown played 10 Offensive Linemen throughout the entire game and started a new right side. On the defensive side the Tigers played 11 different kids up front.
Coach Dixie Jones didn't take it easy on the kids this week. He had them in full pads going full contact Monday through Thursday.
