Anyways, good luck to these teams on the rest of the season. Sounds like Evarts may be the team to be in the Harlan area this year.

Give me an answer there, I'm really curious--I thought it would be better this year. As for football I played for a couple of state-semifinalists and a 13 win team so I think I know what it is all about. I wan't trying to slam Harlan but evidently they aren't anywhere near the team they were last year--sorry if the truth hurts.
Well you really have a hard time just admitting you are wrong don't you? Do you think before you type? Congrats on your long lost successes. The point here and my only point is what business do you have trashing anyone or any team? Especially since you are not in the mix anymore. Kids read these posts and they don't need your sarcasm. Harlan is a (listen carefully now) small Class A school in an area where folks are leaving, not staying. There are no jobs to bring folks into our district. We have graduated 13 seniors last year. 8 the year before, and 13 the year before. We have 3 guys who have played 4 years. We have a grand total of 3 Juniors. We have decent sized Freshman and Soph. classes. Of our 9 seniors, 3 have never played. 3 have played 4 years, and 2 of the 3 played sparingly until this year. Harlan has accomplished tons with the bodies they have. Its a tough year personnel wise, guess in a growing town in a growing future insterstate corridor, its hard to grasp that. Does the truth hurt, no it doesn't. But I take offense to your comments because they are very shallow and mean spirited.

Evarts and Cumberland will be a good one. I would have picked Cumberland, but Evarts' confidence is building and they may just be able to pull it off when they play. Harlan will be lean for a few years. Long way off, my little one's 5th/6th team has 40 boys. Thanks for your graciousness.

I don't know your age, but I'll guess 14. When you grow up, you will learn there is more to football than winning at all costs. I'll restrict my comments because I have friends on here from your town, and I don't want to get kicked off the forum. You don't do Somerset High School any justice.
Pappy, I wasn't trying to talk bad about the Dragons. I though we had come to an understanding after last year. Harlan played Somerset tough last year and I thought with the Jumpers moving up they would rule the roost this year. I know every team has a down year or so but I never expected Evarts to roll over the Dragons like that. I wasn't trying to disparage your Dragons but I was trying to defend my Jumpers because neither of the county teams has earned the right to talk smack against Somerset. I did and still do respect what Harlan has accomplished, I guess the lost more than they could replace this early--I've even picked them twice in the contests. You remember how it was, you felt as though your son's team was being attacked. Well, I had to answer the calls when my son what being attacked. However, those calls stopped about 10 pm on gamenight.

I would just ask that you proofread your posts and think about how you would feel from the other side. Lets just forget it and go back to our corners. Life is too short.

I really wasn't trying to give the Dragons a hard time. I was truly suprised that Evarts beat them like that. Harlan and Lynn Camp really earned my respect while we were in their district. It was just a shock to see the Dragons lose to Evarts. If you read my posts I wasn't trying to give the Dragons a hard time but just trying to defend the Jumpers. Our district was not, by far, the worst district in the state last year and that was what was being insinuated. I probably shouldn't have said that without Somerset that is might be the worst but I took offense that it was said that is was last year.

As a Williamsburg fan I can understand your comments. Year in and Year out we are one of the smallest football playing schools in the state. I always enjoyed our rivalry with Harlan and will miss it. I enjoyed the year we beat Somerset with our "middle school defense" (direct quote from Coach Cobb, btw). I always felt the Harlan folks were classy towards us, and I hope we were to them. I will say though the times I spent at Somerset as a visitor were horrid. I won't go into details as I'm sure it would end up in a peeing contest on who treated who worse, I'll just say that Somerset had no where near the class Harlan did, and I wish Harlan the best this year and in the future.

Evarts has been down the past few years, but they've had some very good teams in the past, at one time competing well with Middlesboro and Corbin in 2A.
Sports can often go in cycles, kind of like Somerset losing to Pulask County this year even though they've beat them in the past.
Our district is fine without Somerset. It survived before the Jumpers and will go on without them. Hazard, Evarts and Cumberland have a decent shot at winning a REGIONAL championship this year, and Harlan should get better and could also cause some problems for opponents in the playoffs.

Harlan wil be OK. Of their 3 losses, Cawood is 2-1 with a big win saturday over Fleming, Lee,VA. is an excellent team as they showed friday by beating Mboro. Their 3rd loss came to a very good Evarts team on the road. Harlan will make the playoffs again. A win friday night over Hazard would put them right back in the saddle and even a loss to Hazard wouldnt be completely devastating to Harlan's playoff chances. After Hazard, winning 2 of district opponents Pineville, Jenkins, and Cumberland gets them in the playoffs again. Its much to early to write anyone off yet.

I do believe Williamsburg went to the Region Championship back in 04, and I think Lynn Camp won the Region the year before that. I think that pretty much says that Somerset was not the only team in their former district.
