Highlands came out a little sluggish in the beginning of the game. Not making any excuses but I think the kids were a little worn out from the big game the night before against Trotwood. Withrow has the best JV team we will see this year. Highlands JV numbers are pretty slim with a lot of kids going both ways and I believe this became a factor as the game went on. Competition is good and a loss like this to an Ohio team will prepare us for the remaining schedule. Clint Crawford scored the first TD on a good run, Nick Buten had Two TD catches and David Hoge had the other. Oliver Head had several good runs and the line made some adjustments that created problems early in the game. Jake Turner seemed to be all over the field, Brian Beck and Hunter Schlosser provide pressure on a very good QB. Our kids continued to play hard, I just believe we ran into a very good JV team.

He did until he went out of the game with an injury in the second quarter. His not being unable to return in the game made those numbers even a little slimmer. Heck, with him unable to return, we only had 12 kids on the sidelines. Talk about slim numbers.

I agree that all the mentioned players played very well, as did others such as Peter Bardgett. Brian Beck did a particularly good job getting pressure on Withrow's qb in the second half. I also thought the game the night before and well as being up as school the next morning from 7:30 to 12:30 for films and then having to be back up there at 3 to get ready for the JV game resulted in them being tired and sluggish. We looked very flat at the beginning of the game.

Oh well, what doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger. And playing Withrow will definitely make you stronger. They had some very big, talented players playing JV ball. Don't know if it was true, but I was told that Withrow had some seniors on their JV squad. And no. 45 for Withrow is an absolute stud running back. If he can't get playing time on the varsity, I'd hate to see their varsity running back.

But we fought hard and played well, with some young kids getting very good game experience. Good job boys.

L/N, Peter Bardgett did have a good game and after reviewing the tape Nick Martin, Oliver Head and David Hogue played well defensively as well.
