I know these things are almost impossible to do but how does a kid who was 2nd in State in Receiving TDs and 3rd in yards atleast not get an Honorable Mention at WR.

I'm guessing Owensboro didn't nominate or vote for him.

Wouldn't expect like Louisville to vote for him when they have DI guys like Watkins and Cummings.

Plus, you really do NOT vote for that many kids at each position.

Hence the reason so few punters and kickers and the AP lumps TEs with WRs as well.

I saw where it was said that no one from the Bowling Green area voted or nominated in this. That, in and of itself, is why the AP team is a bit of a failure. Too reliant on people who are only looking out for their area.

State champs Pikeville with zero players.. runner up Paintsville zero players. Runner up Bell zero players. State Champs Johnson Central 1 player.

Breathitt with 5 players.. just makes you wonder.

    Congrats to all names mentioned.

I think I recall it being mentioned in the Aaron Snyder article linked in post #21 of the thread below that at least last year, very few AP writers were made aware of the All-State nominations window being opened, and many of them basically only became aware that the All-State wheels were rolling when they received the list of finalists.

I would guess the lack of Bowling Green nominees is somewhat a product of that - the BG Daily News preps guys not being made aware that the nomination period was open.

That's because a Breathitt County player's dad is an AP voter and was able to apparently nominate just about everyone on his kid's team.

Even though he says he gave up his voting right when he became the Breathitt newspaper editor.

He paid to join the AP (Not cheap) so he could vote for weekly team rankings and All-State. Because based on their website and print edition, the never run anything written by AP other than high school rankings and All-State.

Which one of his publication(s) are we talking about here? Assuming we're talking about the same person, he has direct involvement in high school sports coverage for at least three different publications, offered in print and/or online, and at least two of those publications are AP outlets.

Breathitt with 5 players? Are these kids legit or was the voting influenced? What dad are we discussing? Is it the Kentucky Prep Gridiron? Is Henry “HB” Lyon close with Breathitt County football? That’s who I see writing most of the articles for the online service.

Fletcher Long started KPG after he was disbarred in Tennessee. He then moved to Breathitt and stated he had nothing to do with KPG (an AP voting member) anymore. Long's other outlets are NOT AP voting members.

"HB Lyon" now runs KPG. Although there is no photo listed and I can't find a darn thing on his football or journalistic background.

So where exactly are these Breathitt votes coming from if Long isn't still calling the KPG shots?

HB Lyon is a nom de guerre...unless this guy, who was written up back in 1929 in the CJ after his 7th year as head coach at Hoptown, is actually hanging around to write online articles.

Like hell he's not. He was posting articles on KPG throughout the 2019 football season.
