Officials from different regions call different even though the rules are the same. I have watched the BBA officials and weren't impressed with many of them. Every region has bad officials, honest officials, what I call home officials, and officials that will determine the outcome of the game. Some regions will let players bang under the board, some protect the shooter, and some focus on hand-checks. When teams go to different regions. that is one of the main complaints. As far as trading refs during the region, there are always connections.

I have discussed this question with AD's of the region I am in. Consistently, their response is, they fill the BBA is the BEST officials in our area. To exchange with another region would LOWER the quality of officials that would be calling the regional games.

They do not want to LOWER the QUALITY just for the sake of having officials from a different area.

I know that some regions have gone to exchanging their officials with another region. Such as this year the 9th Region used 5th Region Officials and the 9th were sent to another region(whick one I don't know). Seems to make sense to me, these situations would not exist with some proper planning and cooperation from the various regions' assigning secretaries.

Seems you like to keep digging.

The assigning secretaries have nothing to do with whether the officials stay in or go out for the regional tournaments. It is based on the COACHES and the regional policy board. The coaches have the biggest say in who they want in those regional games. The 10th and 11th region officials would love to go out of region. The assigning secretary for the BBA would love to send them out of region. This would make his job very simple. Send the top 12 rated officials to do the games. Job done. But as it is now, he has to be aware of scratches and who is still alive in the tournament. As has been said before Diggerbill, The 10th and 11th region policy board has said as long as they have anything to do with this decision, they will vote to keep the BBA officials in region every year as they feel this is best for all involved.

Also if you were at the 10th Region Finals, you would have seen the so called official you were in question last year, doing the finals. This makes the 12th regional final he has done in a row, Whether it be the 10th or the 11th. He must be doing something right as he is well respected by the coaches as well as his fellow officials.

That's funny, he did not do last years finals in the 10th or the 11th. Is he calling somewhere else as well? A little thinned skin for an official! Huh!!
And yes, hence the name I guess I'll keep digging until the right thing is done to eliminate these potential problems.

Assigning secretaries are responsible for knowing if a certain official has a tie to a specific school. At the 1st association meeting, a questionaire is sent to all and filled out. One of the question ask if you have any family members who attend or work at any school in the assigning region. They call it "Conflicts of Interest" It's the assigning secretaries job to know this and assign accordingly.

He could not do the Montgomery / Pendleton game as he lives in Montgomery. You brought this up up last year. Remember as you said you started this ruckus Digger. So as he deserved a Regional Final he got switched to the girls and finished up in Richmond.

I guess I could'nt make the 11th Girls Finals last year, however, this is not a personal attack against him. He is a very good official, but if you took the time to read the purpose of the original thread you would realize that it was not about the individual it was about the situation in general. Much like the L'ville situation that just occurred, that's the only reason that I brought the thread back up. This is a problem that when I brought it up last year was pure speculation about the appearance of possible problems that could occur. This has now occurred in L'ville. It is a situation can be prevented.
I feel that it's time for the KHSAA Commissioner to intervene and to try and prevent this from occuring again and if I might have been given some prudence in the matter last year, it would not have occurred this year.
