Sad news, I was just told this by a former CCH basketball player. Coach L is a great guy and wish him the best in whatever he decides to do now. Does anyone know if he still plans on teaching at CCH? I sure hope he does.

Coach L. Is a great Coach and a better man. I will miss him very much! It has been very annoying to see the Parents have so much to say about a man that has had such great success? I think the last coach to take CovCath Basketball to a Final 4 was Mote Hills in the late 60's.

Ruling out a PP would really narrow the field it would seem? Tough to lure an established coach from a public system due to $$'s and more importantly retirement benefits, which would seem to leave a young "up & comer" or a current Diocesan teacher/coach? Which HC's at area Catholic schools are teachers? Faust, Dawn and Goetz I think fit that criteria? Seems like you wouldn't want to restrict the field for a high profile job like this one??

He won't get it even if he is interested.

Wow, surprised to hear this. Best of luck to Coach, and Thanks not only for all you have done to lead the program to the success it has achieved all these years, but all for all you have done to help make so many young men, better young men!

Thanks to Coach Mike Listerman for asking me to be the first ever play-by-play guy for Covington Catholic. Words cannot express my gratitude for bringing in a Holy Cross/Thomas More guy to the CovCath family. Coach L is a great friend and he will be missed more than people realize. One thing I learned as we traveled the state; Coach L is one of the most respected coaches in the Bluegrass than anyone I've ever seen. His record speaks for itself. Under Coach L, 5 regional finals in 8 years with 2 titles and a final four. Going to be tough to top that.

Heck, even the ladies working the pass gate at Scott County loved him.

I have called Mike Listerman "coach" since the 70's. Had the pleasure of playing for coach in youth knothole, freshman and JV basketball (St. Thomas) and varsity basketball (Highlands). Would have loved for my sons to have played for him. I respect him as a coach, father and a man. Coach, I hope you are in good health! Enjoy your family, friends and retirement from coaching. You have had a positive impact on many young lives. You will be missed!

As I mentioned in a thread last year at this time, I heard a few whispers about it, nothing other than he has been there for around 25 years! He does a good job and deserves to retire, if he wanted.

I may as well be the one to throw it out there if we are going to talk about possible successors ... Rick Shumate will surely apply. I would guess this is the one job he would want above all others.
