    Covington Catholic 63 Newport 36 (9th Region Round 1)

Newport led at the end on 1Q, but the Colonels got themselves collected and controlled the rest of the game.

Thanks for the clarification in the game thread about the rule regarding dunking the basketball in warmups, @feelingit.

Nice win for the Colonels. Newport played with energy in the 1st quarter, but once things settled down, CovCath was in control.

    The formula.

It seems like that is how most CCH games flow.

Their formula was extensive stall ball and it worked.

Newport brought their pep band. They were pretty good. Love it when schools bring the band.

Is anyone really sure why the technical was called before the start of the game. I know it has been stated it was for dunking in warmups, but I'm under the assumption it was over the way they lined up on the court while the Newport players were being introduced.

I think Cov Cath should get rid of that practice. It’s the same as staring down a player after a dunk. It’s unsportsmanlike.

You won't here an argument about that from me.

Honest question though, is having your team practice dunking in pregame any different than a football coach having his kicker kicking 50 yard field goals in pregame, or putting his quarterback on one knee at midfield and having him throw the ball into the endzone?

How were they lined up during introduction?

Have you been hacked? Is this your way of telling us you've been kidnapped and we need to raise the ransom money?

I'm the most ridiculous homer there is...I own that. Especially during the season when my team is still alive. We can all agree to disagree on our most triggering points. That said, I believe the best version of the 9th Region and BGP is one where we all - in the end - support each other. And I hope the Colonels - or whichever team captures the 9th - go down to Rupp and win it all.

Have a great Sunday evening everyone!

A straight line across the top of the key, think what a college team looks like during the anthem.
