Good luck finding someone from Lewis County to share that sentiment right now.

Ya gotta respect good basketball. Honestly I believe these kids know the game better than a lot of highly rated college freshmen. They know what it takes to win and expose teams in that sense.

They may not be the most athletic (though they are really athletic) or have the size to win some of these type of games. But they have really good basketball IQ and they can all shoot the ball really well.

And they play for Jason Mays. That man is a great, great basketball coach. To restore the shine to Ashland basketball like this in two short years, speaks volumes about the type of coach and leader he is.

Ashland made seventeen 3 point shots tonight! The guys on the TV stream said it was a 16th region tournament record. Their starters played just 20 minutes before Coach Mays took them out leading by 40 points with a running clock.

They will play Elizabethtown in the first game of the state tournament. E-Town was a 2 point winner over Bardstown tonight in the 5th region.

Ashland's Colin Porter is the tournament MVP. Per James Collier's twitter, Porter dished out 26 assists over three tournament games, third most in a single tournament in region history. Not bad for a freshman.

Ashland found a real gem in coach Mays.
A previous coach nearly ran the program into the ground. Coach Howell did a good job of turning things around for a small time frame. But coach Mays is what Ashland has been needing for a while. What he's done is remarkable, coach of the year in the state of Kentucky if I had a vote, regardless of what happens in the sweet 16.

You could find anyone anywhere that would find the style of unselfish play fun.

One thing I found interesting in the all-tournament team Lewis only had 2 players playing in the finals and Boyd Co. Had 3 players after losing in the semis actually to Lewis you don’t see that to often.
