I would be shocked if Mason went Undefeated. Remember Mason is playing the best in the Nation in Hawaii let alone the State.

All I said was Mason "MAY" go undeafeted. It seems some can't even take a compliment or any good will meant toward the Royals here.

I think people are just sharing their opinions saying that it will not happen. Nothing wrong with stating opinions on here.

Stay healthy, stay out of trouble (remember the little incident in March 2004). Let's not forget that 4 of the Royals' top 7 graduated last spring (Pawsat, Scott, Browning and Stahl). Two were starters.

King, Tolle and Downing in particular will have to play extended minutes and fulfill their roles; whether it be defense, rebounding, etc.

What was it about Clark County that eliminated Mason County in the regional final? For one, they had a stud player (Knowles) that absolutely went off. Find a way to contain the studs on the other team.

That being said, Miller and Knowles pretty much canceled each other out, so the supporting cast in many ways determined the outcome. When Browning went out with an insury, the sparkplug was gone. Mason needs to find a couple of guys that can come off the bench and provide instant offense and/or instant defense vs. a hot hand.

Let's not get carried away and talk about undefeated seasons. Ain't gonna happen - not with this schedule. Concentrate on getting to the Sweet 16, and see what happens from there if you're fortunate enough to make it. I do know this - while Mason looks mighty good on paper in the 10th, there are a whole bunch of Indians, Cardinals, Eagles and others that aren't gonna lay down just because Mason is "supposed to win"...[/quote]

Great post Papa...you are one of the true realistic ones from Mason Co. You know I hope they have a great season and do great in Hawaii and their other tourneys. But you do know when it comes Regional Tourney time...they will have the bulls eye on their back and several teams in the regional will try their best to knock them off. I do feel with the schedule that they play they will not go undefeated, but will really prepare them for the post season play.
Here is to you and all the rest of the Royal fans to a great and healthy year. Hope to see you all at regionals.
    Thanks!

The thing you must remember is leave early....last year we left Clark Co at 11:00 for the 3:00 game.... I wanted the best seat I could get...just wished I had bought a bucket of Ky Fried Chicken with me.

You can always spend the night with us....

Now back to the thread......Hope someone will post links to web casts and give updates of the Royals games...expecially the ones in Hawaii.

DM, I for one appreciate the compliment to the Royals and hope that an undefeated season is in the cards. I just don't think it will happen with the schedule.

Anyone else with comments about how the Royals can improve? I've given my early $.02.

They have what it takes to take the state this year. 1 Stud Player that stands out in Miller. 2 very big contributors to go along with the stud in Setty, Middleton. They need to develop a decent bench and get solid contributors from the rest of the players who will see action. There schedule is extremely tough which will benefit them come tourny time. I think if they take 1 game at a time and not overlook anybody, they have a very legitimate shot at winning state. At the beginning of the season I would put Mason at #2 just because Scott Co is defending champs but I look for somewhere midseason for Mason to make their claim for #1.

Pretty good summary from a fellow 10th Region fan.

A question - will the Royals have enough firepower when at least one of "the Big 3" are having an off game, sitting due to foul trouble, etc.

Does anyone know about the transfer from Lexington? Did he play much last year, etc?

Only thing I know is he's long and very athletic. Doesn't have a great shot yet though.

I am curious to see if Middleton has improved. I thought the games I seen last year he was very talented, but inconsistent, which can be expected from a sophomore.

The new kid, Phil Barner, is extremely talented and could play alot of minutes this year. He's a bout 6'5" or 6", athleticism galore and has a decent set 3. The Royals got alot deeper with him.

One of the keys to Royals success will be team defense and avoiding foul trouble. They have good size but size only will not defend against quick, athletic guys, especially the guards.
The Royals on occasion last year just stood and watched to see what Darius might do. It will take all five players on the floor playing hard all the time for the Royals to compete with this schedule.
As MCPapa points out the Royals graduated four of top seven players including two starters. They also lost a ton of leadership and example by extremely hard work in practice and games by this group. They left a legacy that should challenge the current group of Royals.
Lastly, the Royals will have to not read press clippings or blogs. Lots of these games will be close and Royals will have to come ready to play each and night, one game at a time. They dont need to be thinking about Rupp but the game to be played. If they do this, this bunch will be alright and will be great fun to watch this group of fine young teenagers play and have fun.
A bit a sidenote, I saw where one the New York teams in Hawaii has three top Division 1 players, the three apparantly take turns playing the 1 and 2 and this team love to run and gun. And there is a possibility the top Chinese team might be in the tourney. Should be a great time to be in paradise and watch some bball.
Should be a most interesting season. Go Royals.
PS I havent heard anything about the transfer from Bryan Station but he will have to be outstanding to do anything more that limited varsity duty as a sophmore and coming into a new system.

I wonder if the new 6'6" transfer will be playing the point or wing.
