Coachg13207 10 Posted May 25, 2009 How about pitch your ace in game one and pray for rain so he could come back later in the week with a couple days rain delays. You want a rain out? I can get you a rain out! Where is that quote from?
colonel-fan 1,856 Posted May 25, 2009 You want a rain out? I can get you a rain out! Where is that quote from? Bull Durham? And I would throw my ace in the first game. Too many times have has the higher ranked team gone home without throwing their ace.
sportsfan09 10 Posted May 26, 2009 This year it's so wide open. You play to win one game at a time. If you save your #1 and find yourself in a hole early it could be to late and there is no tomorrow.
goaheadandjump 10 Posted May 26, 2009 I have always been of the opinion that you start your ace and get them out as quick as possible. Amd if you cannot get them out well......good thing you started your ace.
friedtaters 10 Posted May 26, 2009 Why couldn't you pitch several kids 2 innings or so if you really don't have a GOOD #2 or #3? Pitch by committe! Save your #1 for the 2nd round? I know that a local coach just worries about winning 1 but don't really worry about the 2nd game until he gets there BUT we need to go to win more than just 1 GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!That showed in our DISTRICT GAME, you have to baby some kids that could really help but our coaches say they want to save him for NEXT YEAR???? What good does that do for the SENIORS this year and you may not even make it NEXT YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is especially valuable if you end up like they have in the 16th now with the rain changing the schedule and giving the top bracket winners a day's rest, which mean't they could actually have thrown a kid 3-5 innings and with the day off bring them back again for a couple of innings. A lot of it depends on how deep your staff is, when you play, and your draw.
sportsfan09 10 Posted May 26, 2009 It would be hard to save your ace if it's one and done.
pickoff 10 Posted May 26, 2009 This exact thing happened in the 16th last night, Raceland had their ace(Josh Wilson) on the mound and after 2 the score was 14-0 so the coach pulled him and used the #2 and the#3 and won the game 15-6. Now we have all our pitching ready for the next game which is Thursday the 28th.
region12hoops 10 Posted May 26, 2009 I say throw your best. Depending on the schedule it may come down to your #3 vs the other teams #3. If they saved their better pitchers for the finals then they were lucky it didn't burn them and they get the advantage. You may find youself in the finals but against someone who knocked off the best team because they thought they could save the pitching and it burned them.
