ColonelMike
Who: Shelby County (1-6) at North Oldham (3-4) Where: Goshen, KY Time: Kickoff is 7:30 pm ET Broadcast: Free, live high definition video coverage begins at 7 pm ET on www.pegasussportsky.com North Oldham (1-1 in district play) hosts Shelby County (0-2) in Goshen on Friday. The Mustangs, who got their first ever win in the district two weeks ago in a 17-0 win over Waggener, has all but sewn up a playoff berth; a win over the Rockets will not only seal it up, it would ensure at least a third place district finish. Shelby is behind the 8-ball at 0-2 in the district, but the Rockets' two losses were to Top 10 rivals Central and Franklin County; Shelby matches up much better against Waggener and North and can still finish strong in district play. North's vaunted defense is hoping to get good news back regarding defensive stars Bryce Grady and Mike Davis, who both left last week's game against Franklin County with injuries. Good news on that front would be VERY good news; Davis is not only the #1 tackler on the Mustangs, but he led state 4A in tackles going into last week's game. Grady is the #2 tackler on the Mustang roster. Liam Hutson leads the NO defensive backfield; the junior DB has 7 INT on the season and 3 of them he has returned for pick-sixes. Shelby has some explosive athletes and veteran coach Todd Shipley is one of the best at maximizing talent. But - interestingly - the Rockets' weakness is going to get matched up against North's weakness. North Oldham is averaging just 29.4 yards rushing per game - but Shelby is surrendering over 274 yards rushing per game. Something has to give. A North win would guarantee the Mustangs a playoff berth and likely third place. A North loss would still leave the Mustangs in a good spot. North would be an underdog against Central in their final district game, and would likely finish 1-3 in district play. But the Mustangs would edge Waggener in head to head if the Wildcats finished with one win, too, and would likely win any three-way tiebreaker with Shelby and Waggener. Shelby needs a win to get into the conversation for the playoffs, and the Rockets still have a fair shot at 2 district wins, facing North and Waggener in their final two district matchups. ColonelMike
This is going to be a very fun game. Lot on the line for both. North claims at least third in the district with a win. Shelby likely claims a playoff berth with a win. A Shelby win could also ultimately lead to a three way tie between North - Shelby - Waggener, a tie which would likely benefit North. Pegasus is on air at 7 pm ET at www.pegasussportsky.com Tim Brien and Matt Hill have the call.
