How many times do you click lock/unlock on your car fob?

Recommended Posts

I just took one of my coworkers to pick up his car from the shop, and as we were walking out to my car, I was griping about how I need to replace the battery in my keyless entry fob again. Feels like I do it like once a year.

He commented to me, "Well maybe if you didn't click the button on that thing so many times when you unlock your car the battery would last longer."

Ha, I hadn't realized he paid attention to me clicking on my fob to lock/unlock my car, but he's right, I always click three times, even though it only takes one single click so long as I'm in range of my car.

I've gotta think I'm not the only person who does that, am I?

On several occasions, I've attempted the "no look behind the back" click as I'm either walking away or getting close to my car.  Trying to impress those with me.  Of course, my wife will try her door only to find that is still locked, meaning I have to look at my fob, see that I've been clicking the wrong button the whole time with the result that I have to now embarrass myself by pointing the fob at the car and selecting the right button...multiple times!  My batteries go dead too.

To unlock my door, only click it once.  To unlock all the other doors, I have to hit it twice to do that.

But, to lock it, I always just hit the button on the door panel.  Very rarely do I ever use the fob to lock it.  Guess my batteries should last forever, then, huh? 😄

I have a boring fob and key now with my Camry.  I used to have an Audi.  Loved to play with the button on the key that popped my key out straight from the side of the keyholder.  I felt like a gunslinger playing with my Audi key at the table.  Maybe a little ADHD?

Because of this thread I vary my fob use.  Weird, I know. 🙂

What about locking it?  You have that nice, newer ride, correct?

To lock it, I just have to press the little button that's on the door handle.

Do the inside of the doors have handles to roll down the windows?

They do not. But I'm pretty sure I can roll my windows down with the key fob if I want.

Two clicks to unlock. At least a million clicks locking it. Basically click it nonstop from truck to where I hang my keys, mostly because it annoys my wife!

My wife's is set to lock and unlock on it's own. It locks when you are a few feet away and unlocks when you get back to within about 7 or 8 feet.

Of course you have to have the key remote somwhere on you in order for that to happen.

On my vehicle, my key fob battery died about 5 years ago and I still haven't replaced it. Just use the key like back in the day. Maybe this post will inspire me to get a new one.

Twice to unlock all the doors (even if I'm the only one getting in) and twice to lock (one click locks all the doors, the second one is just to make sure they are all locked.)

Zero to lock, zero to unlock.

Lock with a swipe of the door handle - sensor in the handle.  Unlock just lift the door handle.
