We're now on the second year of the current football alignment, so with that being the case, what are your predictions on which teams make the semifinals for each class? How about the finals?

1A: Pikeville Paintsville

I think eastern KY 1A football is on another level right now across the state. Pikeville loses a lot but returning players up front and McNamee still under center will make them a tough out for anyone. Paintsville also returns a lot. Until NCC comes back to relevance I think 1A champs will come out of EKY for awhile.

2A: Somerset Beechwood

Somerset loses a lot of key contributors but bringing back Sheron and Grundy, along with many other key players will help. Watch for 44 Jerrod Smith to have a nice year, he's a kid that got some crucial playing time as a freshman on a senior laden team. They also got Chase Doan as a transfer from Southwestern. If he is ruled eligible by season he will help as a junior, was a 1000 yard rusher as a freshman and their leading rusher last season.

I think Hergott will get Beechwood back to the championship game. With Mayfield seeing a decline next year, I think that second team is up for grabs.

3A: Belfry Desales

Belfry is always Belfry, which seems cliche but is true. They lose a ton, but Isaac Dixon is a man among boys and he will carry the load just fine. Coleman should see a lot more carries, and their line will have to step up and come along. But it always seems like once November hits, Haywood has them boys hitting on all cylinders.

The second team in 3A is a shot in the dark. Bell County returns arguably the most starters in 3A but they're losing their heart and soul in London as well as their best WR in Jones. Taylor County also takes a hit with all they lose. Desales always seems to be a tough out so I went with them.

4A: Johnson Central Louisville Central

Johnson Central will run away with 4A next season IMO. I think Corbin and Boyle are a year away, and I don't think Wayne County has enough to go with Sloan. That's why I went with Central to be the other team. It doesn't matter who they graduate, by the time 3rd round hits you know they're going to be sound defensively and do just enough on offense. Last year they entered the playoffs 5-5, and gave Boyle a good game before their starting QB went out. Playing Dupont, St X., South Warren, will ensure you're battle tested.

5A: Frederick Douglass Cov Cath

FD loses several D1 players and their QB, but the cupboard is hardly dry returning guys like Jagger Burton etc. It will be interesting to see who their QB is this year since the last two years it has been a senior transfer.

Cov Cath is shot in the dark, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a team like Bowling Green make it.

6A: Trinity Male

Trinity should always be in the championship game. It's Trinity and they're not slowing down anytime soon. I'm going with Male on the other side but wouldn't be surprised to see a team like Manual make a run. They have a lot of young talent coming through and seem to be on the cusp of making a run. They just have to get over the St. X in the playoffs hump.

This is a little more difficult to predict without knowing how RPI will play out.
