Go Panthers!

FHS took the entire school up for this game.

Great shooting effort by the Panthers. However, was a little disappointed with officiating in this one. Similar calls weren’t being called both ways. Good luck to the Panthers as they move on.

I thought Brossart had a chance to make some noise in the tourney. Frankfort must be much improved since they lost by 49 to Mason County early in the season.

Shocker. Would have never predicted this outcome.

Good luck to Frankfort the rest of the way!

As someone who watched just as a fan the officiating was questionable both ways. One sequence a Brossart player hit in the face, no call, go back the other way player called for putting hand up and touching Frankfort player at half court.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems Brossart has struggled to find success at the state Class "A" in recent years. Mustang might be able to shed a little light on the recent history.

Looks like shooting percentage was the key. Frankfort over 50 percent? 20/35 on 2 pointers is strong and 7/16 on 3 pointers is good too.

We have suffered "one and done's" in our past three trips to the "A" State.

Our demise in 2016 vs Murray, and last year vs University Heights was much more about the draw, than our capabilities. Both were excellent teams, with Murray going to the Final Four and losing narrowly to Owen County with Carson Williams, and last year we were brilliant against eventual "A" State Champs UHA with Ky Ky Tandy, losing 61-53 and giving the Blazers their best game in the tournament.

In the history of the tournament we are 13-14 with a runner-up and a championship trophy to show for it.

Today, Frankfort who normally shoots 28% from beyond the arc (or three arcs here at EKU), hit six in the first half, and were 7-16 on the day. They went on a 15-0 run, when we were leading 12-7, giving them a 20-12 lead, compounded by the fact that we were outscored 16-5 in the second quarter, and Carson Schirmer being strapped with three first half fouls, accounted for our being behind 30-17 at halftime.

As we have done over and again throughout the 10th Region "A" and this season we came back, cutting the Panthers lead on two occasions to four points late in the game, at 49-45 with 1:58 to go, and 50-46 with 1:08 left to play. Frankfort hit 6 of 7 free throws down the stretch to hold us off and win the game.

By our standards we didn't play up to what we consider par, going 15-40 from the field, and 14 of 22 from the free-throw line. Junior guard Stephen Verst shot lights out from beyond the arc where he was 6 of 8, and led all scorers with 23 points.

Ethan Eilerman was limited to 10, and Carson Schirmer 7, both well off of their season averages.

So, to answer your question - No, we haven't gone deep in the "A" State recently but today was the first time that we could have possibly played better, and maybe just didn't get the job done.

Frankfort played well. They have a point guard who is on par with Sam Vinson of Highlands with his passing skills. They move the ball well, and defend physically. They outplayed and out-shot us for the most part and deserved to win the game.

I suspect that quite a few of these Panthers play football and that the Frankfort team that played Mason County, wasn't the same team that beat the Mustangs today in McBrayer Arena. Good luck to them. Owensboro Catholic looked like a bona fide good team this morning in whipping West Carter, and would have been a major challenge should we have advanced. I'll be interested in seeing the outcome in that one, hoping that Frankfort plays back to the abilities shown here today.

Frankfort has been trying to find it's self. You don't lose what they lost last season and not struggle a little. Appears they are starting to figure it out. They are shooting the ball better and will need to do the same tomorrow.

Is there more to the story? Any players who have been out that returned recently? This is certainly an upset. Frankfort is now 9-12 on the year. Brossart drops to 15-3 with the loss.
