Week Six

Top Ten

The top 4 stay the same - Scott County, Lafayette, Danville and Lexington Christian. Scott County and Lafayette settled nothing in the controversial game and both got back on the winning track this weekend. Danville came back from a week off with a big win over Green County and Lexington Christian moved to 6-0 for the season with an impressive 64 – 16 win over Fairview. Should these 2A schools be above some of the larger class schools just below them? Danville has an impressive win over Boyle County, who is back in the top ten this week and the Eagles are posting big win each week, scoring 170 points in their last three games while holding opponents to only 49.

Madison Central is a solid 5-1. Until their 42-0 performance against Woodford County this weekend they had not had a ‘dominate’ performance. Their only loss is a close one to Defenders of Bryan Station.

The Creek is definitely rising. Tates Creek took on Scott County and Belfry to open the season. This put them in an 0-2 start. But since then they have rattled off 4 wins, the latest being against Bryan Station this weekend. Tates Creek and Madison Central go head to head in two weeks. The winner may earn a spot above the 2A teams after that.

Three of the next 4 in the top 10 are about to go head to head over the next few weeks since they are in the same 3A district. Boyle County is now on a three game winning streak. A big win over Lincoln County may not be the most impressive game on the schedule but the Rebels are streaking and looking much better than the first 3 games of the season.

Madison Southern has dropped two straight games, one to 6A Tates Creek and one to a 5-1 Pulaski County. The Eagles are in a position to win their district for the second straight year and will close the season against in-county rival Central Madison.

Western Hills is 5-1. This may be the best start in school history for the Wolverines. They have already taken the crown of Franklin County with a close win over the Flyers and a solid win over the Frankfort Panthers. Their next game is in two weeks against a struggle Lexington Catholic team. The Wolverines only loss has been Madison Southern.

Garrard County is at 4-2 and rounds out the top 10. The Golden Lions strength of schedule is not good for ranking but they are having a solid season. Their two losses are a 3 point loss to Madison Southern and a loss to Rockcastle County.

The Next Ten

Bryan Station keeps hovering between the top 10 and Next 10. The Defenders have potential still – its a question of if it will come together.

Casey and Nicholas County remain undefeated. They are having outstanding years. But should they be in the top 10? I would like to get some reader input on these teams.

Lexington Catholic continues to struggle, especially on the defensive side. Injury bug hit the Knights defense early and seems to be having an impact. East Jessamine has also been hit by injury and lost their last two. Traditional powers Franklin County, Mercer County and Anderson County are having choppy seasons at this point. Districts should be interesting for these teams.

In 6A, Henry Clay continues to struggle and is dropping. Dunbar has shown some life. Gauging the 6As against the smaller schools I hard. I think these are good teams but they are not getting it done in their own class.

Game of the Week

#11 Bryan Station at #2 Lafayette, September 30, 7:30

Lafayette hosts the Defenders in Fayette County 6A matchup. The Defenders have been up and down a bit this season. The Generals have shown they deserve top ranking in the region. But come playoff time the Generals will need improvement to match up with the Louisville and Northern Kentucky 6As.
