Recommended Posts

What does Adair County need to do to improve in 2016? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

The first, which is a total must, is that the new hire keep the offense simply the same. With the exception of Elizabethtown, Adair scored well against everyone on their schedule, including second round loss to Caldwell Co. The Indians did show, in the Etown game, to be a bit outmatched and maybe lacking an ability to perform against high quality athletes, though they have several of their own. I would say the second main area of improvement has to be just that, competing with trophies on the line and against a high quality opponent. Whether it is for a district title against Etown or Regional contest with Caldwell or PT. Also, replacing two hundred plus tackles lost to graduation will be an interesting test.

Coach Gay, and staff has made great strides at Adair. However, the only difference with them and the other people mentioned on the Big Stage (E-Town, Caldwell, Tillman), is the weight room. I have seen them play against the good one's and one's that are rebuilding. The Metcalfe game is one that you must look at. While Adair won the game Metcalfe out hit them because of weight room strength. If they want to improve and overcome those teams then they must get complete buy in. Because when this group is gone they may go back to the days where the struggle to get to .500. Again this is not a knock they have stepped up, just making an observation of competition.

The one thing Adair County was lacking against E-town, Caldwell and Tilghman had nothing to do with the weight room.

It had everything to do with those three teams having some guys with more fast twitch muscles than those at Adair....just as it was the difference b/t Adair/Metcalfe.

Point blank, end of story.

Adair spent as much time in the weight room as anybody in the state with a solid offseason program. Adair played awful in that game and Metcalfe played like it was the Super Bowl. No amount of additional weight room time leads to wins against any of their five losses in the last two years. The fact that I just used "five loses in two years" in an Adair thread shows how well things have been going there.

So some believe that the weights have no factor, I will just disagree, because if your quarterback in which in most cases is the leader of your team and refuses to take in school weight lifting, and the rest of the players see that he is allowed, then this is not much of a leader. My point was this showed when the chips were down in the Metcalfe game. Point blank they did not respond to physical contact.

Well, this escalated to a very personal level pretty quickly. Maybe calling out a 16-17 year old boy is not the right way to prove your point. Especially since, during the season in which you are questioning Adair's dedication to weight lifting, the was no existing weight lifting class. Also, to say your "point was showed", I will agree to use your grammar, is comical because when "the chips were down" Adair left with a W and the hornets left with the L. Judging by your name of "optionfootball" I assume your a life long Columbian or maybe a dedicated transplant to the community, thus I derive that you are also a UK fan. Relate that Metcalfe game to how every single basketball team on earth plays against UK. Metcalfe had a chance to beat what is probably one of the top two or three teams in Adair history. They played with an intensity that is difficult to match. Metcalfe always brings really impressive physicality, you are absolutely right, but I wouldn't quite say that based on that game, Adair has shown a lack of dedication to weights and training.

I will also second Harry's motion that "speed kills". If you watched either the Elizabethtown or Caldwell County game, you can see that the difference between the two teams was not strength. I do not remember seeing Cecil or Cain run over many Indians, if any. Also, if I do recall correctly when Caldwell did try to run downhill and not to the edge it did not exactly work out well. Those are speed teams with lightning fast backs and receivers and that's what won. That is also what looks to win for Adair in 16. Speed

If we are wanting to look at their performance against the "strong farm boy" type teams, then look at the Taylor, Metcalfe, Hart and Casey. They went 4-0.

And if I recall correctly, Metcalfe scored on broken plays and busted coverage. They weren't taking 4 yards a play, every play, all night.

Its insane that we are debating the merits of an Adair team. If you had this thread 5+ plus years ago, it would be people wondering if they would or wouldn't win more than 2 games all season.

Never said Adair, and or coaches were not good. Just the opposite. I was simply making a case from observation of being on a big stage. I think they are as good as E-Town and Caldwell. You guys may be selling you own program short. When I watch a game, I do not watch the ball, I see what is going on in the trenches. Not from Adair, and often wonder if Gay would have been there 10 years ago how good the program would be. I am just throwing out things about leadership, because you are good enough to win those games, however, everyone has to do there part on and off the field. If you think that players do not count reps or no who is in or out you are sadly mistaken. Hope that Adair reaches it's potential in 2016, because they have the talent and staff to do so. Best of Luck.

I don't think anyone is debating the merits of Adair County's team. The question was asked what do they need to improve on to knock off an Etown or Caldwell. Being from Central Kentucky area I think most seen the potential in the Adair County program.

Robbins last year they were 7-4 with a win against Franklin Simpson. Also it was when there were 4 classes and tougher then IMO. If they would have hired the right coach then maybe the momentum, which makes this hire very important.
