Northerner 10 Posted April 24, 2015 Excellent looking weight room. Not sure about the safety of those pillars.

Foreverfriday 10 Posted April 24, 2015 It is a converted warehouse. It gets lots of use by many sports (football, baseball, track, softball, and even middle school teams). Batting cages set up in the back, weight room, running track up top, and open area for drill work. Also has locker rooms, laundry room, and office space. It's a great asset. ChiefSmoke 1,673 Posted April 30, 2018 We fixed the center of the main turf and then added a high grade "turf" for the top of the complex. We now have a full scale indoor practice facility. We use the top part for LB/RB and OL/DL. Perimeter guys use the main turf on the bottom and we go team offense & defense on the bottom. Also..... no taxpayer money was used for the upgrades. Much of it was donated and sponsorships. All sports have access to all areas.... not just used for football. Now that we have the top area, I don't know what we did without it. It gets alot of use. GCHS 66 Posted April 30, 2018 Hey coach - what do you have on the upper part? Is that just indoor/outdoor carpet, kind of like the old "Astroturf?" Looks like the players are wearing cleats.

Yes, it is. There were 3 different grades and we got the best one. Moving forward, groups up top are not in cleats. They have better traction in tennis shoes and it does less damage. We had it installed in December. It has held up well and we have been really happy with it.

ChiefSmoke 1,673 Posted February 18, 2019 Here are a couple pics that show the replaced turf in the middle. Yesterday we had a couple families and a head football coach from central KY in our complex. They were very complimentary. Like all things... we take it for granted because we are use to it. But, our athletic programs and kids are very fortunate to have this and it gets a bunch of use.
ChiefSmoke 1,673 Posted January 4, 2020 We had a voluntary workout this morning. Some guys were throwing on the turf. Others chose to lift. Going forward, I have to be more deliberate in utilizing this incredible facility.
ChiefSmoke 1,673 Posted April 1 When we finished up workouts this morning, our guys did a really good job cleaning up/organizing the complex. Being old is a double-edged sword. I can’t believe what a great facility & equipment we have... especially compared to what was here in 1974 (my Dad’s first season @ Mercer). Very appreciative/thankful. But, good grief I get angry when we don’t take care of it. We just got our lockerroom redone. Nothing fancy... concrete block. But, it will be 100 years before the Mercer County football coach has to worry about replacing or fixing lockers. Those lockers will be painted over spring break. We move in on April 12th and begin spring football.

No. We have brand new bleachers and lighting at Alvis Johnson. Our bermuda surface at AJ is also outstanding. With no away bleachers, the visitor's sideline has become a popular tailgate area. We load the bus, go play, come back, no wear and tear on the facility pictured here. I didn't realize how much I would like this setup but it has been really good.
