Voice of Reason Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Never a doubt. Complete blowout. 35-0 at halftime. Running clock immediately after halftime. On to the Colonels next Saturday.
Voice of Reason Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 This game was no contest. The highlights for Holmes came in the first few minutes of the game. They recovered an onside kick then got a 1st down on a roughing the punter penalty. The Tigers tightened ship and stopped the Bulldogs on downs. Brett Slusher then took Beechwood's 3rd offensive play for a 58 yard TD run. It was all down hill from there for Holmes. Holmes had 3 and outs on their next couple of possessions. The Tigers scored on a 1 play drive by way of a Ethan Stringer 55 yard TD run. Then the Tigers Jacob Cottingham intercepted a Holmes pass on the next offensive play and took it to the house from 30 yards out. Freshman kicker Daniel Mescher added extra points after all the TD's on the night. The Tigers had a 21-0 lead after the first quarter, a 35-0 lead at halftime and led 42-0 one minute into the second half and putting the game into running clock mode. Here are the scoring plays in the game: Brett Slusher 58 yard TD run Ethan Stringer 55 yard TD run Jacob Cottingham 30 yard interception return for TD QB Kyle Fieger to Jeremy Burns 43 yard TD pass play Joe Studer 9 yard TD run Joe Studer 25 yard TD run Casey Erdman 13 yard TD run For Holmes, their TD came in the 4th quarter on a nice run after catch by Fred Vickers that went for a 63 yard score, David Varney adding the extra point. Riley McKown was impressive from his defensive tackle position for Beechwood. BW's Brett Slusher had a very good game on defense with several big plays. Andrew Arnold was all over the field making tackles for Holmes from his LB position. Arnold also is a hard runner on offense. Vickers had a couple long receptions prior to his TD run after catch. He probably went for close to 150 yards in receiving. Holmes QB Desean Brumfield did not play in this game and I did not see him on the sideline. Beechwood had a balanced offensive attack and only punted once, late in the game when the second team was in. The defense gave up a couple big pass plays they aren't happy with but was very tough against the run.

Voice of Reason Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Holmes Quarterback Desean Brumfield did play, he was actually wearing number 7 tonight. Thank you for that clarification. Why the change in numbers?
BuddySugarDavis Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 That's now 11 TD's on the year for Studer through 5 games.
FanofMany Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 I was complaining all last week about making sure we had to have the freshman kicker ready. Turns out he was needed this week. He did great but in the future I would like to see him getting more kicks than just the freshman level.
Imhisdad Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 That's now 11 TD's on the year for Studer through 5 games. Very good 1-2 punch out of backfield for Tigers. I realize Holmes not very good, but this team feels different. Line jelling, QB starting to look like a leader, and big #7 is becoming a force as a WR/TE. I can't envision a better 1a team in state right now.

Lets just they are starting to look like what was expected. Definitely top 2 in 1A state.
FanofMany Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Mt Healthy is now 5-0. Averaging 36 points per game. They have only given up 27 points in 4 games since the Beechwood game. Beechwood scored 34 points in one half! Dixie is better than most people think. We will see in the next several weeks what they do with the rest of 6A NKY.
AGullett08 Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 I know this is late but he had gotten a concussion from when they played walton and was told they cut his jersey off at the hospital
