Things are getting started. July 30th rocks.

Skip's Ladies Football Clinic from 9-4. Mrs. S and my daughter are going, then joining the boyfriend and me for the USF Preseason Tailgate in Clearwater from 4-8.

It's getting so close you can smell the pigskin.

USF Head Coach Skip Holtz on the Dan Sileo Show this morning. He's cranked up.

At the tailgate party, yesterday, Coach Holtz said that nobody was more excited about this game than he is.

From a USF standpoint, it is what he wants, opening against a tough opponent right off the bat. Just like ND did, when he played there, opening every season against Michigan. He'll know what he has after this game, good or bad. He'll know what to fix. He wants this type of opening every year.

From a personal stand point, he gets fired up for every game, but this one is off the charts. Having played and coached at ND for 8 years, and being that excited, he just hopes he turns the correct direction when he comes out of the tunnel. "I'm not sure how Coach Kelly would react with me standing next to him when the game starts."

Per a press conference held by Coach Kelly on 8-5-11, he stated that they intend to use the first 19 practices to evaluate Danye Crist and Tommy Rees, and that they should determine a starting QB at that point and focus on USF the last two weeks of practice. He also stated that he intended to make it public knowledge who that would be and would not be trying to keep it a secret up until kickoff.

I believe that as long as Crist is healthy enough to move about as needed, that he will win the position.

Barring an injury or an absolutely awful sh9owing inpractice, it will be Crist.

My daughter's boyfriend told me he saw a recent video of Crist with a heavy brace on his knee still. That's why I ask. It should be interesting to see how he moves.

You never wanna see that, last year ND's star TEpulled a hammy early in the year andnever got back to full strength, eventually he reinjured himself and was out for the year. Hopefully BJ will get healthy quickly, because USF willneed him.

Lou Holtz speaks from heart while addressing Bulls

ďIf you want the right to fail, you have the right to fail. Thatís whatís great about this country. Life is a matter of choices. Choose to do drugs, drop out of school, join a gang, choosing that problem. But you donít have the right to cause your mother to fail."

ďThere wasnít a player there their mother didnít sacrifice to give them the opportunity. The greatest thing that can happen to their mother is for them to graduate. So, they may want to fail academically, but they donít have that right because they canít let their mother down."

ďSame thing with the team. No matter how you feel you cannot let your teammates down. If you want to fail you have the right to fail, but you do not have the right to cause other people to fail because you donít fulfill your commitment."
