Paul Horning played for a 2-8 team when he won the award.

Here are some others that played on average teams:

Playing on teams with four losses were four winners:
    YEAR WINNER SCHOOL OVERALL RECORD
    1969 Steve Owens Oklahoma 6-4-0
1980 George Rogers South Carolina 8-4-0
    1985 Bo Jackson Auburn 8-4-0
1987 Tim Brown Notre Dame 8-4-0

Playing on team with a .500 record was one winner:
    YEAR WINNER SCHOOL OVERALL RECORD
    1935 Jay Berwanger Chicago 4-4-0

The only Heisman winner to play on a losing team.
    YEAR WINNER SCHOOL OVERALL RECORD
1956 Paul Hornung Notre Dame 2-8-0

Yes. They had a great season last year with most of the offensive firepower returning. I understand the logic...

Its hard to stick with the run game when your constantly playing from behind. I see where your coming from with this though.

Brohm and the fact that last year they had a solid year and ended the year ranked high.

I knew how VERY bad our defense was before this game, but I am genuinely speechless....I have never seen a less-motivated defensive unit in my life...

I think that UC has a good chance of beating U of L due to them being able to put up points and their defense is probably better than any of the defense U of L has seen so far this year......

They still have an overpowering offense, but that secondary leaks like the Titanic.

UC really slowed down the UL attack at Papa John's last year, but I'm skeptical still because it was the game Brohm returned from the thumb injury. I think Brian Kelly is twice the coach Mark Dantonio was, so they should much better be able to exploit the soft UL D. I think it will still be a tough game for UC to win, but UL is trying to sway me the other way pretty hard...

UC has the ability to slow down UL for sure and ANY team has the ability to put up big points on the Car_s at this point.
