btw- That man called "Bear" won that NC at U.K. as well, Paul "Bear" Bryant was the best to ever walk the sideline.
Another point on the emphasis that U.K. put on football (and jmo still does).............. Bear Bryant wins the NC in football and they gave him a watch/cigarrete lighter. Adolph Rupp wins the NC in basketball and he got a Cadillac. Sure didn't take Bear too long to figure out where football stood at U.K., he left for Texas A&M and then to Bama and as they say the rest is history.

Oh, Old Rambler everytime I hear that story I feel awful for UK football. With the Bear staying there who knows how good UK football would be today.

Y'all need to read his book "Bear" sometimes. It was written in the late 70s and he mentions the banquet where Rupp came up first and got a Kentucky Blue Caddy. "So thats pretty good and I won the Sugar Bowl I guess I'll get a White Caddy". They called out his name to come up and handed him a blue cigarette lighter. Bear goes back into his office later and calls his agent, "just get me out of here, I'll go anywhere!" Where did he go?

The Bear is my favorite coach of all-time even though I didn't get to watch any of his teams. I love reading stuff about him so I probably will check that out. And he went to Texas A&M after running from UK I believe. I don't blame him for getting th heck out of there.

Go to the library and they will send it to your local one. I have at least 6/7 books written about him, but he only wrote the one. One thing always liked about him was how he would use so many players, runnng backs the most. One reason the Heisman never came close to a Bama player, one Bear player did win it, anybody know who?
