Local prep players extend KCU streak!

The folks on the campus of KCU started wearing t-shirts several years ago that said "KCU Football...undefeated since 1919!" The joke of course was KCU had no football team. Funny! Well now they do have a team as most state football fans know and after their first game the streak is still alive. KCU won their first football game tonight against the Centre College JV team by a score of 13-3. Former boyd county player Austin Hunter scored the teams first touchdown on a short TD Pass from former Spring Valley QB Heath Thomas after falling behind 3-0. The KCU offense had several opportunities to score however the defense ended up scoring the only other TD on a fumble recovery in the end zone. Players that I can remember from ky making a contribution were Scott Grizzle, Raceland. Austin Hunter and Jake Hughes Boyd County. Ron Blume Johnson Central. Gerald Epling Belfry.
Marc Messer, Daniel Geyer, and Greg Glancy East Carter. Darren Pounds Lex. Christian. Andre Brooks Mercer Co. Drew Mell and Ethan Gullett Russell. Michael Walters Paul Blazer. These are the ones I can remember off the top of my mind...I apologize if there are any local players I failed to list.

KCU looked surprisingly sound in most aspects and things look good for the future. By the way, it was a JV game but the crowd was very large for the first KCU game in history. Congrats to the kentucky kids. It is nice to have another option for kids to keep playing the sport they love. KCU travels to Montgomery Alabama to play Falkner University in the schools first varsity contest.

I was under the impression that they were only playing a JV schedule this year and was going to start varsity next year when they have a field.

The way that I understand it, is this is considered a JV schedule - playing JV games and some varsity teams that are not solid teams. I believe they are only playing eight games. Then next year, is a full varsity schedule, the first real KCU varsity team. That is what it says on KCU website under time line.

Congratulations to KCU, I think this program has really taken off, and has received a lot of support. Great to see.

I will enjoy watching this team play due to seeing all of the local players playing for a team close. This is a huge oppurtunity for kids to continue playing football after highschool that wouldnt normally play anymore.

Congrats to KCU and coach Dameron! A class man as well as an excellent coach. Great to see so many Ky. kids playing and NEKY kids on the Knights roster.

This year is considered "JV" for the KCU team; however, they are actually playing 3 varsity contests this year I do believe. They will not count as varsity wins or losses this year but the 3 teams they are playing are not JV teams. They play the varsity team from Falkner (AL), Kentucky Weslyn at owensboro, and Southern Virginia university. The JV teams they play are centre, georgetown and wilmington OH. All games are away. No field yet at the U
