    KCU 13 Centre JV 3

Congratulations to the Knights for their 13-3 victory over Centre. As I understand it, the boys played with a lot of heart & it paid off. Awesome job by the coaching staff for getting this team ready.

Great first game for the KCU program. I think this program is going to be very good for area players and for the state. I am excited to see it being started with the enthusiasm that it has.

Any stats or information on the local players?

Is this KCU's jv also, or are they starting out with a JV schedule only?

I was at the game. Don't know any stats but can give a report. Both QB's looked very good...Thomas from Spring Valley WV and Grizzle from Raceland.
Both completed two very long throws during the game as they split time...thomas played a little more than Grizzle i do believe.
Hunter from Boyd Co had a nice catch and run for TD. KCU's recruits were noticably faster on defense. Glancy from East Carter had a nice run and could have possibly scored with a different decision on a cut. Surprisingly what was thought to be a weak point (OL) turned out to be much better than expected. Players that truly stood out for the knights was the receiver from Florida, #1, don't know his name...he was possibly the best player on the field. Also, Brooks from Mercer Co. and Pounds from Lex. Christian really stood out on defense along with one of the Deal twins, #8 from WV.

I don't know for sure but I would imagine that this game was basically KCU's freshman/redshirt freshman vs the same from Centre. I would think that KCU's kids have the benefit of getting all the practice reps while Centre's probably stand and learn quite a bit; however, just comparing athlete for athlete KCU looks to have the beginnings of a solid program in a couple of years.

I understand the Colonels were hosed on a fumble return that was going to be a TD.... any confirmation on this?

Cant say as i believe that watched the game all the way through and most of the flags went KCU way. (against)

The only critic I can add on KCU side is we need a couple of field goal kickers not taking anything away from that young man. The last thing is Centre had many late and i do mean late hits.

KCU was organized , had a scheme , kids played together as a unit , kids played hard within the scheme and as a result execution was really good for brand new program ... Kids and Coaches to be commended. Atmosphere was certainly different , I kept looking for Ivan , Russell's band , etc , etc ..
Agree KCU was much more sharp and hungry than Centre ... Centre has a beautiful Campus as well as many activities going on for college kids ... I am sure KCU is in part trying to achieve this design.

One thing that I was impressed with was the following that kcu had.
I would guess there were 400-500 people there cheering on the knights.
I thought it was funny that because it was a JV game there was no admission charge. I am sure that some of the KCU administration at the game had to be thinking about 500 at an away game might turn into 1500 at a home game times $10 a head....maybe we can pay for all these uniforms after all! HA!

I don't remember anytype of fumble situation either.

KCU kicking situation is definitely a work in progress. I think that young man is a soccer team import kicking in his first game. Kind of like the old country boy that played in the first football game he ever saw!

KCU was rumored to have had a talented kicker from FL that backed out prior to the start of camp which sent them scrambling for a replacement.

My advice, not that they are looking for any, is to put a square toe on a big boy and have him just toe bash the kickoffs and then really work hard on those 2point conversions.

Centre didn't fumble on a return, however, fumbling in their own red zone and in their own endzone is what did the jv colonels in. KCU should have a good team in a few years and good luck to them.
