Xavier's head coach Mack rejects Tennessee

Is this just the beginning of attempts to lure Chris Mack away from Xavier?

I hope not; I actually like Coach Mack. Between Matta and Miller leaving the ways in which they have, I hope for the Muskies that Mack is around for a longer time. I believe that he has the makeup to be good for Xavier and that they will stay competitive and be better with time.

One thing seperates Mack from the rest of the coaches who've left, he's and alumnus. Not many coaches leave for a lesser job and UT is a lesser job. Add in some NCAA ramifications and UT isn't in the same chapter as XU.

Mack can be picky but the "local boy" connection will not have any impact on his decision. He'll move for the right gig. Tennessee isn't it.

Agreed. If he leaves soon I hope Kelsey hasn't left before that time for a lesser job.

Kelsey will have options immediately. He's paid very well for a #1 assistant so he can be picky. It wouldn't be unheard of him for him to leave for a head coach position and then try to come back when it opens up at X a la Skip Prosser.

I think he would be the hire when Mack leaves but I would personally like it more if he was still here when that takes place.

No surprise. One of those schools (and I think it's Towson) has a UC guy as the AD.

I saw him today at our daughter's soccer game and joked with him and his parents about replacing Pearl. I don't see him leaving for awhile.

But it goes deeper for him than for his predacessors.

X and Memphis have agreed to do a home-and-home. X goes there next year and then Memphis comes here the following season.
