Mid-South Conference final played at the Civic Center in Frankfort yesterday evening. Huge momentum shifts in this one. Tigers got out to a quick 8-0 start, but the Patriots took over and built the first-half lead to as many as 15. It was 41-31 St. Catharine at the half. Georgetown opened the second half on a 21-1 run, and led by as many as 11 before the Patriots came back to tie the score at 73. Tigers hit their FTs at crunch time, and made 26 of 30 for the game.
Georgetown was led in scoring by Tyrone Shelley with 19, Mo Pearson with 18, MSC Player of the year Vic Moses with a 16-11 double-double, Eddie Gray with 13 including most of the clutch FTs, and former Scott County standout Rodney Haddix chipped in 9. The Patriots had 4 players in double figures - Antoine Watson with 17, and Xavier Keeling (along with 11 boards), Kashiff Carr and Brandon Johnson with 11 apiece.
Lots of one-on-one play in this one as evidenced by St. Cath's 7 assists on 28 baskets, while G'town tallied 10 assists on 25 field goals.
Both squads will travel to Kansas City for the NAIA national tournament. Congrats to the Tigers on their 20th straight appearance in the tourney.
