Uhh... you realize they are ranked, right? By seed they should have two in the Elite 8, and should have had 5 in the Sweet 16.

Just trying to balance the anti Big East hype. I am not sure what everyone expected. The fact that they got 11 teams in seems to have warped people's minds. They now think 8 of the Sweet 16 should be Big East teams and probably think the Final Four should be 3 of 4 Big East teams. If 3 of the Sweet 16 were Big East teams would everyone still be on this gig? What would it take ... 4 of 16, 5 of 16...? I think the hype against the Big East is worse than any supposed hype there was in favor of the Big East. They deserved to get 11 teams in and how they have performed in the tourney isn't changing that.

    This...

But thanks for the accurate statistical breakdown.

P.S. I guess everyone better root against Marquette or this whole thread is obsolete, right?

Yes. The committee admitted as much during interviews on Selection Sunday. The fact that they played the final on Saturday is why they played their way into a 3 seed according to the committee president or whoever the guy was getting interviewed.

Only if they make the Final Four. Pitt's 1 seed means the Big East needs at least one team there.

    Which makes no sense.

It is the reality of the situation but it is complete nonsense. It'd be like announcing the final BCS standings before all the conference title games have been played. ALL the games should count, it is a joke of a situation.

What would keep the NCAA from mandating that all conference tournaments must be completed by Saturday so as to give the committee more time to select? Could network TV money have a role?

CBS wants that programing on all day Sunday leading into the show, so TV money is certainly a factor. So is having the semis and finals on a Saturday and Sunday for the conferences. When in doubt, it is money making the call...

I guess those experts missed another one. Down to 1 for the "deepest, toughest conference in the land".

So their "best team", or one that has lasted the longest to this point, has won 3 games. That's all they can do?
