Nuclear bombs mistakenly flown over U.S.?

Is it me? I am dumb or would it be pretty hard to not know you are flying nuclear bombs over your own country?

I don't care how many codes it takes to set one off, I dont want them flying anywhere near me.

True. I was aiming at just radiation, I forgot what initially happens when one goes off.

It doesn't surprise me at all, lots of things flying, laying around we don't know about...In Paducah there is a Uranium Enrichment Plant and I've often wondered what happens in parts of that building! There's an old story about building some top secret ship there that took a monkey to space...:flame:

    From the article:

"And they are designed to withstand a significant impact, including an aircraft crash, without detonating."

Call me a doubting Thomas, but I guess my question is - who has run the "test-crash" experiments and what were the results.

To me, there's a subtle but significant difference between "they are designed to" and "they have proven to be".

But, hey....we're not rocket scientists, you know.

I am not going to go into the specifics about the arming process and how it works with a nuclear weapon but needless to say the likelihood of one of those going off without being armed is about as likely as me taking a flying leap across the Ohio river with a perfect 10 landing on the other side. You would have more to be concerned about from a conventional warhead in those cases.

At times during the cold war the U.S. had nukes in the air 24/7.. Not a big deal...
