New York & Boston Places to Stay

The girlfriend and I are planning a trip for the summer to New York and Boston, and were having a difficult time figuring out where to stay. We're looking to stay somewhere outside of both NYC and downtown Boston due to wanting to keep our costs down. Anyone know what cities/areas we should avoid or have any suggestions?

She surprised me with the news that she's planning the trip around when both the Yankees and Red Sox will be in town, so I'll be going to games at both New Yankee Stadium and Fenway! Talk about a keeper

If you're planning on trying to secure Yanks or Sox tickets your hotel is not going to be your cost problem.

I thought that would be an issue as well, but we already found 2 tickets to games in each for a grand total of $150. Not bad at all IMO.

Now granted, they're standing room only tickets in NY, but we stand at all the Reds games, so that's not an issue.

For the New York stay, check out hotels in the Meadowlands area in New Jersey. Affordable and a very short bus ride into the city.

We've found hotels in both that are a total of roughly $500 for the 8 nights we'd be up there. The one for NYC is located in Newark, and ten minutes from the city. The hotel offers a shuttle to and from NYC for $25 a day. The one for Boston is located in Salem, 20 miles outside of downtown Boston. It's only a couple miles from the site of the Salem Witch Trials, etc. Not sure about shuttles are transportation methods there though.
