    Dale Jr.

Its a new season and Dale Jr. has 2 top tens at tracks he normally has trouble at! Currently he is 10th in points. He should have won the 500 but got wrecked.

He is doing pretty well. Hopefully he can win a couple races and get people more excited about the sport. Races have been pretty decent this year. Love the new points system.

I like the new point system too, also I like that we're not heaing much about Jimmy Johnson (I think that will change very soon unfortunately) not that I'm a JJ hater, I just want someone else to win!

Considering the horrible luck he has had. He's doing very well.

The flat at Datona - never would have been back in that pack to wreck had it not been for the flat.

    The loose wheel at Phoenix.

He is horrible .... And should give up racing. He wasn't wrecked at Daytona ... He wrecked himself (watch the replay .. I did). Living off Daddy's name .... Just like Kyle Petty.

Had it not been for the flat he would have been up front with the top 5 or 6 cars and wouldn't have been back there to be in the wreck.

Picking up a piece of debris and getting a flat at that point in the race was horrible luck.

Even though he didn't win at Martinville. IMO that is the best race Junior has driven since they went to the new cars.

About the only races I watch significantly are Bristol, Daytona, and Talladega, other than that I catch a few laps here and there, like maybe the first twenty and last twenty, with some in between. Some weekends I just catch a little to none of the race but still check out the standings and post race reports. I have watched NASCAR my entire life so I have been around it for a while, Dale Earnhardt was like a hero growing up so naturally Jr. would be the driver I would continue to pull for. Although over the last ten years or so I don't enjoy NASCAR anywhere as much as I did when I was younger I have noticed this is the best Dale Jr. has ran in a few years, possibly ever. He is normally terrible at Martinsville and most other short tracks for that matter, but looked very good from what I saw Sunday. In the races I have watched this year he has been running very, very good. Over the last few years hes took a lot of heat about just being an average driver and that does have some legs but I always felt the last 5-6 years or so Junior would have some of the worst luck around. It was like he would run good at tracks but then end up in a late race incident or something happen to the car. Before long he would be so far behind in the points that the pressure was just too much. This season though even though barely into it, Jr. has looked very good. I think the garage change benefited him more than anything and likewise for Gordon. If Junior can continue to run the way he has he should break his winless streak soon and be a contender for the chase. 88 is normally garbage at a lot of these tracks, ie. Martinsville, Las Vegas, etc. and he has looked good this year. Maybe thats a sign of things to come or maybe just a fast start. My opinion is that Jr. is a good driver and I think he is very capable of actually contending for an entire race season if things are going in his favor and so far they have been.

I agree. As I said in my post I feel he is running this season better than he has in the last five. Martinsville always seemed to get the best of Jr. but he looked very good there Sunday, I'm with you probably his best race in the new cars.

I never batted this idea around too much and now it does make so much more sense than ever. After being in a slump for the past several years and looking like instead of continuing his growth as a driver he flatlined and regressed, I searched for answers why. Was it crew, equipment, luck, just not a good driver. Just didn't seem like something was right. Junior was way too fast and drove way too good in his late Busch Series career and his crossover into Winston Cup for him to look the way he has over the last few seasons. The new car idea really seems to be a pretty good hypothesis because it was evident that in a lot of those old races (especially at the super speedways) DEI cars were just head and shoulders better than all others in the field. I think the change to a more even playing field along with all the differences in the cars themselves led to Juniors short comings. Instead of being able to work with a dominant car at certain tracks and be aggressive he has had to learn how to work on the technicality of his driving. I think this is the break out year and the year Junior has finally figured out how to get the most out of these new cars. Its looking like the new garage is getting these cars tailored made to meet his driving and it is paying off. 88 has had a history of car not performing quite the way he would like and that led to numerous problems and frustrations. So far this year looks like the game plans been pretty spot on and I think a lot of that all falls back on the new crew and the job they are doing getting these cars set up for Sunday.

The season is a marathon not a sprint. I think most people questioned his desire more than his ability. Even if it was the Busch series, he still won two championships. So he can drive. I always thought after his fiery crash at Sonoma a few years back. He might have lost some of the fearlessness needed to do what those guys do. We are also seeing that the right communication can pay huge dividends. Letarte & Junior seem to be growing together every race. Confidence is big in any sport !
