Busch Series to become a muscle car series in 2009

No matter what brand or company replaces Busch Beer as the title sponsor of NASCAR's No. 2 series next year, that series will look vastly different two years down the road.

Bye-bye Fusion, Monte Carlo and Charger. Hello Mustang, Camaro and Challenger.

The whole "win on Sunday, sell on Monday" thing took a dive when Chevy was winning everything in sight but only moved less than 30,000 Monte Carlos a year.

    Yeah...

With this set up its going to be easier to imagine yourself doing 200 in a rear wheel drive muscle car than a front wheel drive whatever they race........

It's about time they put the muscle back into Nascar, even though it's just the clothes the cars will be wearing! May be a harbinger of things to come in the Cup Series.

Nah ... Cup's gonna be whatever cars the Big 4 (?) think are most mass-market --- currently the Fusion, Impala, Avenger and Camry brands stuck on the new cars.

One thing NASCAR's trying to get away from is the image of the Busch Series (whatever it is to be called in the future) as nothing more than the low-budget clone of the Cup series, which is basically what the junior series became after being converted from the old Sportsman Series of years ago (the 1950-1981 original, not the Humpy Wheeler error of the early 1990s).

Just wishful thinking..... Don't forget the old Cup cars were full size cars! Won't work with Toyota though!

Solara, the grapevine sez. Yeah, I know --- it's a secretary car. Although if Toyota wants to bring back the Supra, I certainly won't object.

I like this idea. If the cars are different then youll see less "Buschwackers". There are to many good drivers out there who cant get a shot because of all the cup guys double dipping all the time. Its like Reggie Busch playing for USC on Saturday and then going back to play for the Saints on sunday.

I don't see them stopping that, mojo. There will still be those who want to drive those cars on Saturday, then drive the Cup cars on Sunday.

I dont think it will stop them completely. But its the ones who are doing it for testing purposes who wont be doing it anymore.

I agree with that, mojo, but there will still be some who will do it just to get another day on that track, even though the cars won't be as similar as they are now. And if sponsors want them out there, they'll be out there.
