We had planned on leaving Monday for Florida, not sure now. May have to postpone it for a day or two.

    Thursday morning update

I'm going to have to up some of the totals from my first call of snow. I switched to the NAM 3km because it is like a high definition of the NAM model. It gives a clearer picture as to where things could happen.

First, the ice which I believe could cause some issues with power for some. As of this morning, almost the entire state looks to receive some ice accumulations.

Look for ice accumulations of .01 to .25 of an inch of ice for almost the entire state. For now WKY the ice accumulations have come down from yesterday and looks like they will miss out on some of the snow.

The NAM 3km has the storm taking a little more of a southerly track. It shows a swath of 8-10" through Kentucky. There are also some that could see around 12-14" in some spots. The combination of snow and ice will make travel treacherous. I expect Winter Storm warnings to be issued sometime today or tomorrow.

Things will likely change as they usually do so check back for updates later today. Take care and you can use this information to plan as you see fit.

According to the Channel 5 weather guy that used to be with The Weather Channel,, the storm has lost some of its punch and his call is for 1-3 inches in Cincy, yet the model above say 9"?

Channel 9 is calling for 4-6 or more depending on how long the ice portion of the storm lasts.
Channel 12 is calling for 2-5 with .2 of ice
Channel 19 is calling for 4-7

All are saying there is a ton of uncertainty and these totals could change. Channel 5 seems to be the most conservative.

It really doesn't look like much on the radar right now.

Most recent update I've seen is about 4-6" in NKY. That'll cause some issues tomorrow afternoon/evening.

Latest I have heard here in far WKY is .10 inch of freezing rain followed by 1-3 inches of sleet with a little snow after that.

I usually don't put much stock in accumulation forecasts for winter weather events. They are often wrong (mainly because there are too many variables to be correct), and a couple of inches doesn't make that much difference for me. Unless we get huge numbers, it's all the same.
