    Chance for storms on Thursday

Kentucky has a chance to see strong to severe storms on Thursday. The Storm Prediction Center has most of the state in a Slight Risk Area for these storms. This is mainly west of I-75. The rest of the state is in a Marginal Risk Area. These possible storms could produce damaging winds, hail and a tornado or two.

As of this morning the best timing looks to be between 5-8 pm EDT. Especially for Western Kentucky. The storms could be around the I-75 corridor around 11 pm EDT.

    Wednesday evening update

The severe threat looks to still be with some in Kentucky on Thursday. Conditions look to be favorable for the formation of strong to severe storms late Thursday afternoon into the nighttime hours. After scattered showers and storms during the day, the main severe threat looks to be late Thursday afternoon into the evening hours. The timing looks to be from 5-8 pm EDT for the possibility of the strongest storms.
The main threats look to be damaging winds, large hail and a strong tornado or two. Some of the possible tornadoes could reach EF3 strength.

I'm watching the western parts of Kentucky because that looks to be where the main threat will be. For now, those in the Land between the Lakes area should pay special attention to the weather late on Thursday. That seems to be the area with the greatest risk of strong tornadoes.

The severe weather threat has increased since last night so I'm issuing a Severe Weather Alert Day.
