Game of Thrones: Season 8 Discussion (Spoilers)

Page 16 of Seemed like a lot of callbacks to the first season. Bran creeps me out. Really liked the reconnection of Jon and Arya. I am really curious how the news... 368 comments | 12323 Views | Go to page 1 →

    Definitely not what she deserved.

It is what it is. I was entertained.
I had hopes they would stick the landing. I honestly feel like this will end up being the only ending we will ever get. Martin will never finish the books and die the smug jerk he is. Sigh.

I think she's going to go after Sansa now, clearly. Grey Worm is going to have to be taken out now in order to get to Dany to assassinate her. Tyrion is also likely in danger.

Jon and Arya are also clearly going to be aiming to take Dany down. I feel like one of them will kill her.

Bran? What's the point of his character in the grand scheme, apart from being the motive of the Night King to attempt to erase all record of men from the earth? Same with Sam Tarly...what's his endgame?

I think, as a rightful Targaryen, Jon doesn't have any hope of taking the Iron Throne, given the fact his family all has well proven to be absolutely insane, and that the folks in Westeros who will actually serve a Targaryen monarch are few and far between these days. Who does that leave to take the Iron Throne? I think it has to be one of the 3 true Starks.
Dany and the rest of her family are inbred, which apparently made them more susceptible to things like what she did.

Jon wasnt inbred. But I still don't think he wants it.

Id say theres a chance no one ends up on the throne.

Apparently the show runners and GRRM have talked about the ending. He said himself there will be small differences but the overall ending will be mostly the same.
Which I am fine with, I just feel like someone took a movie and edited out all the character development in order to Michael Bay it up. Oh well, it's fiction in the end. Not much point in getting angry anymore. It has gone the way of many other franchises.

There have been quite a few characters who died in a situation that wasn't exactly "what they deserved", although Cersei would appear to be the most principal character to have done so.

I'd argue that none of these characters ended up getting what they deserved, although essentially, none of them are "bad" characters who deserved worse...

They set her up as the Big Bad for two full seasons, shoving the Night King to the periphery.

Then not only did she go like that, they even gave her a tearful farewell.

    So it goes.

No but given the narrative quality I have come to expect better than what we've been given. Alas, it's a matter of it's all we'll get, so I may as well accept it. No chance I go without criticizing it though.

After two years of Euron’s magical fleet destroying everything in sight and one week after 10 ships mounted with Scorpions took down a dragon in three perfectly-aimed shots, how about we just have Dany take down the entire fleet and all the scorpions mounted on the city walls in about five minutes?

I reject the notion that Dany’s mental instability was well-established enough to end up turning her into a genocidal maniac, but I’ll listen to the argument. The idea that these battles make any sense at all is indefensible.

The dragon they shot was unmanned. Dany was on this one, and she used a different attack.

I don’t have an issue with Dany taking out the fleet and wall defenses. It appeared this time positioning, repositioning and reload time was taken into some account. Once the back half of the city defenses were gone the rest would of been much easier to neutralize.

I wasn’t a fan of how Arye and The Hound said goodbye. The Hound seeing the light through the bricks to take out The Mountain was on the Michael Bay side.

We were once pretty excited about rewatching the whole series again when it was finished. The thought was we’d see all the little hints throughout. Last night’s episode really is going to change things as far as watching again.

A couple of rumors going around (not spoilers) are

Martin pretty much stopped being involved with the show somewhere around the midpoint. Some say that the D&D (guys in charge of the show) wouldn’t listen to him. People cite this is way in part Martin doesn’t talk about the current season but does talk about future GoT projects for HBO.

HBO wanted the last two seasons to be longer and/or to extend the amount of seasons. D&D wouldn’t do it. They’ve been signed to do Knights of the Old Republic for Disney.

I have no clue how accurate those statements are but I’m sure in coming years we’ll hear more.

There is no way Dany survives. After last night I can’t see her ruling for very long. Tyrion will have to be executed after freeing Jamie. Jon can’t end up on the throne and may not be able to just go to Winterfell once it becomes well known who he is. That leaves Sansa as the best choice left.

There are so many loose ends that need to be tied up next week. I refuse to believe Bran’s character is finished. I refuse to believe that the white walkers are completely vanquished either.

I think we might get a hint about the Walkers. Bran I’m afraid has lost his development in the race to the end. I hope I’m wrong on that.

Maybe Bran will warg into Drogon to save Jon when Dany tries to kill him. Who was it that told Bran that he would never walk again, but he would fly? Of course, he "flies" as a raven, but it would be cooler to be Drogon.

Lots of people seem mad and that they just didn't see this from Dany. Maybe it's because I haven't read the books, only watched this once and haven't been a diehard for eight years, but I sort of don't understand how people didn't think Dany would do this?

The man that loved her the most and she looked up to as a father figure completed betrayed her at one point. She lets him come back to defend her and he gets killed at Winterfell.
She lost two of her babies, one because of people fighting for Cersei.
She lost her best friend when she got her head cut off by The Mountain (because of Cersei).
She seems to really love Jon and wants to be with him and he basically denies her, thus making her choose fear.
Her hand, Tyrion, betrays her and spreads the one secret that she feels can destroy her.

Why the heck wouldn't she go scorched earth? She has no one she truly cares about that truly cares about her besides Drogon.

I didn't have issues with Dany burning down all of King's Landing. I actually felt like it seemed pretty fitting.

    A couple things that I didn't like...

    1) Varys going to talk to Jon on the beach, out in the open in front of anyone and everyone. It seemed completely out of character for him. Felt extremely rushed and not how he would typically handle that conversation at all.

    2) All this time Arya wanted to kill Cersei and when she is literally feet away from doing this, the Hound tells her not to.

    3) Euron and Jaime fight just seemed dumb.

    4) I wish Cersei had a different death, but I don't mind it at as much.
