10th Region Week 6 Review: Colonels Punch Ticket to 2A State Tournament

Recommended Posts

1. Bourbon County (15-2) - The Colonels are establishing themselves as a force to be reckoned with throughout the state. The senior dominated, pressure oriented Colonels picked up a 56-41 win over Montgomery County to complete the season sweep over the Indians. Amirion Joyce had 19 points and seemed to be the difference in the game. Amari Faulkner also provided a spark. Bourbon County defeated both Harrison County (89-49) and Rowan County (57-53) in the 2A sectional to punch their ticket to the 2A state tournament in Owensboro.

2. George Rogers Clark (13-3) - The Cardinals defeated Powell County 84-29, Paris 65-47, and Harrison County 89-74. Lincoln Bush totaled 49 rebounds in the 3 games. The Cardinals travel to Mt. Sterling Friday night to take on Montgomery County in a big district rivalry game.

3. Bishop Brossart (13-2) - Ethan Eilerman scored 34 points in the Mustangs 78-53 win over Pendleton County and scored 27 in the Mustangs 56-51 OT win over Calvary Christian. With the win over Calvary Christian, Bishop Brossart advances to play Paris in the 10th region All A semifinals. The Mustangs have won 12 straight.

4. Campbell County (8-7) - The Camels are trending in the right direction. They were competitive in a 67-56 home loss to Covington Catholic, and defeated St. Henry 56-55. Covington Catholic is one of the top teams in the state and St. Henry was fresh off an impressive win over Lexington Catholic. Dane Hegyi poured in 23 points in the big win over St. Henry.

5. Robertson County (12-4) - The Black Devils won both games last week, putting an end to their 4 game losing streak. Justin Becker had 22 points and 12 rebounds in the 75-52 win over Calvary Christian. Robertson County then narrowly defeated Bracken County 53-50. A surprising score given that the Black Devils had defeated them by 37 points early in the season.

6. Montgomery County (9-8) - The Indians dropped all three games last week. The most important being the 56-41 district loss to Bourbon County, because that drops them to 1-2 in the district. The Indians struggled with the Colonels pressure defense and couldn't find any rhythm on offense. Montgomery County's other two losses were to Eastern 71-70 and Harlan County 71-67.

7. Mason County (7-6) - In the 2A sectional tournament, the Royals fell to Rowan County in overtime, despite Alex Schalch's double-double. Mason County did pick up a 77-60 home win over Walton Verona. The Royals will need to improve on their 28.5% season three point percentage.

8. Paris (5-8) - The Greyhounds had their best week of the season last week. They lost by a respectable 65-47 margin to George Rogers Clark, and picked up close victories over Nicholas County and Augusta. Jamaun Clark had 23 points in the 10th region All A tournament victory over Augusta. Paris plays Bishop Brossart in the semifinals.

9. Augusta (9-8) - The Panthers split their 2 games last week. They defeated Fleming County 68-40 and then lost a 49-47 heartbreaker to Paris in the first round of the 10th region All A Tournament. Kason Hinson scored 30 points in the victory over Fleming County.

10. Scott (4-9) - The Eagles had only one game last week and looked overmatched at home against the highly ranked Covington Catholic Colonels, losing by an astounding 87-19 score. Scott made only 4 of 39 field goals that game, with 3 of the 4 made field goals coming from Grant Profitt. The Eagles will look to bounce back this week against Bracken County.

11. Pendleton County (4-10) - The Wildcats lost both games last week, bringing their losing streak to 9 games. They lost to Bishop Brossart 78-53 and to Rowan County 50-43. Clay Monroe scored 23 points in the loss to the Mustangs.

12. Calvary Christian (7-7) - The Cougars almost pulled off a monumental upset in the first round of the 10th region All A Tournament, but ended up losing to Bishop Brossart in overtime 56-51. The Cougars lost at home to Robertson County 75-52, but picked up a road win over Dayton 71-60. Calvary Christian is shooting an impressive 37.8% from three point range on the season.

13. Harrison County (2-12) - The Thoroughbreds dropped games to the top two teams in the region last week. They lost to Bourbon County 89-49 but they were competitive in a 89-74 road loss to George Rogers Clark. On the season 4 out of their top 5 scorers are juniors.

14. Nicholas County (3-11) - The Bluejackets showed improvement last week. They were competitive in a 64-59 road loss to Paris, and they blew out St. Patrick in the first round of the 10th region All A Tournament.

15. Bracken County (5-12) - The Polar Bears had an impressive showing against Robertson County, losing by only 3 points to the Black Devils in the first round of the 10th region All A tournament. Bracken County defeated St. Patrick behind 27 points from Jhace Cummins. The Polar Bears fell to Fleming County 74-48.

16. St. Patrick (4-10) - The Saints lost to the #15 and #14 teams in the region last week, and neither game was close. They lost to Bracken County 79-59 and Nicholas County 97-56. Jaylan Rigdon scored 32 points in a 67-56 victory over Jackson City.
