If you believe in the QB, you ALWAYS take the QB. The question here really isn't Burrow vs. Young. It is Burrow vs. Herbert vs. Tua (hip probably eliminates him at #1). If you have doubts about all those guys, trade down and get extra picks. The needs are too many. Young will fix nothing on the Bengals. If Young comes in and gets 25 sacks, the Bengals will be lucky to get 3 wins with this offensive line, linebackers and Finley at QB.

Agreed, not many defensive ends carrying or transforming teams.

If this question is only about the Bengals then I say neither. Take the best asset you've had in 20 years, a #1 pick and use it to fill more than just one need. A QB isn't turning this team around either. Trade back and get picks/players to fill needs on the line. Once you have a line that can protect a rookie QB, then go get one. Bengals will still suck next year and will have a very high pick again to then get a QB.

Most teams don't have a good line that are picking early, yet the QB ends up still turning the team around. Usually if a team has a good line, they aren't picking early. Which means if you wait until you have a good line, you may not be in a position to draft a top qb. Meaning you are back into the same spot you were from 2011 to 2015 where you had the talent but the qb was the weak spot that couldn't perform against good teams, especially in big moments.

I feel Chase Young is a can't miss kid. What he does easily translates to the NFL.

Burrows has been great, but with Quarterbacks you just never know until they've been in the league a year.

Burrows may be great, Young will be great.

That's the thing there has been plenty of stud d lineman before that people were sure was a can not miss and they end up being just that. Shoot the Bengals drafted one of them before that was suppose to be the next big thing in big daddy Wilkerson.

Chase Young is great, but think about what also helps make him great. That defense is great as a whole. Their offense is one of the best in football. Most of the year OSU has been up a few scores usually early in the game. Allowing Young to be able to pin his ears back, and go after the qb because they know the other team has to pass to catch up.

That would not be the case here if the offense still sucks, and linebackers still suck. They still would not be able to stop the run, still couldn't guard a TE or RB out of the backfield. So if the team is down multiple scores all the time, Young wont be able to do what he is doing.

So if Young ends up only being a 6 to 10 sack guy more like Dunlap use to be. Then was it worth using the top pick on him? Just imagine if Young only ends up being a 6 to 10 sack guy and say Burrow ends up being a stud and turning the whole franchise around he goes to. People would truly be done for the Bengals wasting this opportunity.

So you’re going to assume Young won’t live up to the hype but Burrow would? I think your assessment of why Young is good is way, way off.

What if Young turns into Aaron Donald/JJ Watt type of player and Burrows turns into Andy Daulton...you can play the IF game all day.

Young is a hybrid DE/LB in the NFL, the guys that kill with speed...not a slow interior lineman like Wilkerson.

I never said Burrow was a cant miss did I? However, I keep seeing people say that about Chase Young. I think he will be good, but if he doesn't end up at like the Mack or Donald level. Then was it worth the top overall pick? Or say both Yount and Burrow end up being studs, was it worth going with a DE? We have seen teams with great DEs not do much, until they get a QB.

Donald was great but didn't help the Rams transform until their offense became great. Mack has only had 2 winning seasons ever I think. With one of those years being when Oaklands offense was pretty good.

Let's just say worst case scenario Youngs career ends up like Clowneys? Would it be worth it if Burrow does end up a stud?

There is no guarntee Young will be elite, he probably would be good and probably a safer pick. However, and it is a risk but if they get the qb spot right and say Burrow is a stud. It has a much bigger impact than Young ever would on the franchise. That's a risk worth taking imo.

The Bengals could rebuild their line this year and they would still be bad enough to pick near the top of the draft next year. That #1 pick could get them 3 or 4 quality players if they used it correctly, or one QB that will spend the next five years getting his head beat it.

Which he could turn out like them. Which those players didn't do anything to really help turn their franchise either. If Young turns out as a stud, and so does Burrow you take the qb. If Young turns into Clowney who is good but not at those guys level. Then it was not worth it, if you end up missing out on a stud QB in the process. Which while Wilkerson was an interior D Lineman he was suppose to be a cant miss dominant every year pro bowler.

I concede Young definitely is the safer pick. Just like the safer pick in 2017 with a speed WR when this needed to add a weapon was safer than Mahomes or Watson who were unknowns with lots of questions. 2018 Billy Price definitely was suppose to be a safer pick than a Lamar Jackson, because Price was suppose to be the best center in the nation, a 3 year starter plus would make the line better. So definitely a safer pick than a Lamar Jackson.

Yes drafting a QB is risky because if you get it wrong it can set you back years. However, if you get it right it also speeds the process of winning up by years. The Bengals have played it safe the last few years, when they could have tried to upgrade from Dalton.

Imo the Bengals are in a spot where they need to risk that. Young would not transform the direction of this team even if he ends up like a Watt. If they get the qb spot right and make that their focus, it can.

The Bengals drafted a LT first last year. If he ends up being good, they already have a Center that has graded out to be one of the better ones in football this year. That still leaves LG, and RT obviously. However, if they pick a qb first overall they probably will try to add other lineman to help protect him like they did with Bobby William's in 2003.

Not to mention I also believe the Bengals will trade some people this off season. So they will add some picks that way too.

How are the Bears looking with Kahlil Mack?

JJ Watt goes down and the Texans don't miss him but without Watson how would they look?

The Raiders trade Mack away and get better.

People are raving about TJ Watt, but without Ben they most likely don't make the playoffs.

If the current Bengals roster has 6-8 win capability, then they should consider Young. Is this roster at full health capable of 6 wins?
