6th Region Tournament Preview

In the 6th Region, reigning champion Fern Creek won't have a chance to repeat after falling to Bullitt East in the 24th District Semifinals. Moore, Bullitt East, Pleasure Ridge Park, DeSales, Bullitt Central, Fairdale, Butler and Jeffersontown are set to compete in the 6th Region Boys' basketball Tournament.

Following games played at four different sites in the quarterfinals, Valley High School is set to host the 6th Region semifinals and championship game.

A closer look at the 6th Region Boys' Basketball Tournament follows.

 

Moore at Bullitt East (Monday, Feb. 25, 7 p.m.): The champion out of the 24th District, Bullitt East (18-12) is set to host Moore (16-13) in the opening round of the 6th Region Boys' Basketball Tournament. Moore finished runner-up to Bullitt Central in the 23rd District.

In the two teams' lone meeting during the regular-season on January 29, Bullitt East pulled away to beat Moore 65-55.

Bullitt East, under the direction of head coach Jason Couch, has notched six straight wins.

 

DeSales at Pleasure Ridge Park (Monday, Feb. 25, 7 p.m.): After capturing the 21st District title, Pleasure Ridge Park is poised to host DeSales in the opening round of the 6th Region Boys' Basketball Tournament.

Pleasure Ridge Park will carry a 23-8 overall record into the postseason matchup. The Panthers have won more games than any other 6th Region boys' basketball team.

DeSales, which finished runner-up t Butler in the 22nd District, owns an 18-11 overall record.

The Pleasure Ridge Park and DeSales boys' basketball teams did not meet during the 2018-19 regular-season.

 

Fairdale at Bullitt Central (Monday, Feb. 25, 7 p.m.): One of three 6th Region boys' basketball teams to win 20-plus games, Bullitt Central enters the postseason as the 23rd District champion. The Cougars beat Moore 51-39 in the 23rd District title game and are set to host 21st District runner-up Fairdale in the opening round of the 6th Region Boys' Basketball Tournament. Currently, Bullitt Central boasts a 22-10 record. Bullitt Central beat Fairdale (13-18) 72-65 during the two teams' lone meeting in the 2018-19 regular-season on February 2.

 

Jeffersontown at Butler (Monday, Feb. 2, 7 p.m.): With the second-best overall record in the 6th Region, Butler is slated to host Jeffersontown in the initial round of the 6th Region Boys' Basketball Tournament. Butler is 22-7.

The Bears are on a six-game winning streak of their own. Butler edged DeSales 57-56 in the 22nd District Boys' Basketball Tournament title game.

Jeffersontown, which finished runner-up to Bullitt East in the 24th District, packs an 18-12 record into the postseason.
