Mustang
The Boys game vs the Paris Greyhounds was extremely contentious, with the Hounds holding the advantage for the majority of the contest. While J.D. Schumacher stole the show against Augusta, on this night, it was Ethan Eilerman and Stephen Verst's time to shine. Eilerman scored 15 of his game-high 17 points in the pivotal second half. Stephen Verst, a sophomore playing with pins in his shooting arm elbow, connected on a pair of 3-pointers in the second quarter, to keep us within range of the Greyhounds who were seeking separation at the time. The Hounds led 18-14 at the half. Verst then hit a critical "3" again with the game on the line in blue-chip time and a pair of free-throws late that provided us with a two-possession lead with just seconds to play, and propelled the Mustangs back to the "A" State Tournament for the first time since 2016, with the hard-fought 47-42 win. The Mustangs hit 19 of 21 Free-Throws on the night. Paris countered with 10 of 16. For his efforts Verst was named to the All-Tournament team, along with Ethan Eilerman, while J.D. Schumacher was awarded both our All-Academic award, and was named to the All-Tournament team. The boys will take on University Heights at 9:30pm on Thursday in the "A" State Tournament. Travis Strings, Jalen Byars, and Caleb Johnson received awards for Paris. Johnson scored 17 points in the Hounds, and Ricqiece Washington added 15.
