Generally, a Winter Storm Warning is issued if the following criteria, at least, are forecast: usually between 4 inches to 7 inches or more of snow or usually 3 inches or more of snow with a large accumulation of ice. Storm total accumulations 3 to 7 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph. * WHERE...Portions of southeast Missouri, western Kentucky and southern Illinois. * WHEN...Until midnight CST tonight. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Plan on extremely hazardous travel conditions. The strong winds and heavy snow rates will cause extremely low visibilities. There have already been numerous accidents reported. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... NAM GFS GFS-FV3 First for the possible freezing rain. While the amounts have come down some from this morning's update it has increased more in area. It is mainly along and north of the Ohio River. Now for my snow forecast update. Cincinnati/NKY 10-13" Paducah, Owensboro 8-10" Louisville 6-9" Maysville 4-7" Elizabethtown 3-5" Hopkinsville 3-6" Lexington, Bowling Green, Richmond, Somerset, Pikeville Ashland, Winchester 1-3" These totals are through late Sunday morning.
