Lighting 3 Hurricanes 1 (NHL)

Carolina blanketed Tampa Bay's high powered offense for 2 1/2 periods in Amalie Arena.

The Bolts only managed 3 shots on goal in the 1st period, 7 in the second, and had only 17 shots the entire game with 11 minute left in the 3rd. Then somebody hit a switch, the Canes defense ran out of gas, and Tampa Bay hammered Hurricane goalie Petr Mrasek with 13 shots from that point forward. However, it still took 2 power play goals to give the Lightning the lead. The first one of those was a ricochet off of Andre Palat's skate that dribbled in with a little over 8 minutes left.

Braydon Point gave the Bolts the lead with his power play goal with 4 something left and added an empty netter with 25 seconds left for the final margin.

Tyler Johnson's, foot on the ice as he was entering the bench area, erased a break away break away goal by Point in the 2nd. That was a great goal, too.

Carolina ends its 5 game winning streak.

That Palat goal was an example of what Steven Stamkos can do to a goalie as he comes to the net, as he pulled Mrasek way out of position allowing the ricochet to get in.

Glad you brought that up. I switched to this game during the intermission of Preds/Jackets and was floored when I saw it was 3 minutes into the 2nd period and the Bolts had only 4 SOG. They certainly made up for lost time in the 3rd period though because they came alive offensively. The Palat goal was a good example of anything can happen when you throw a puck at the net.
