You will not believe what happened yesterday at Sharp Middle

We go to sharp middle in Pendleton county. I am assisting during the 7th grade game . The 7th grade coach gets a technical but is having a relatively calm discussion with the ref. A guy gets up from the scorer’s table and approaches the two of them and tells the coach he needs to sit down. I say “do not approach him sir, the referee is talking to him.” He then Says that since he is the site manager for this game he can throw the coach out of the gym. I say “you do not have that authority, only the referee can eject him.” He then threatened to throw me out of the gym for challenging him.

This type of nonsense has been going on for years at Sharp. Not sure why the NKY schools continue to go down there and play or better yet, treat them the exact same way when they come north.

Hard to really comment on the situation because I wasn't there. Site administrators can determine who can attend and stay. You were given a warning, at least. As with anything, some people are more tolerant than others. In 25 years as and administrator, I never threw anyone out, but I warned quite a few.

Again, I wasn't there so I cannot speculate on whether it seemed fair or not. It appears you did the correct thing and just sucked it up and cooperated. Although, I imagine that was difficult if you felt it was unfair.

Just to clear it up, if they're in charge of the facility they absolutely have the authority to remove anyone they see fit.

It sounds like cooler heads prevailed, but hard to say if he overreacted or not. You say the coach and ref were having a relatively calm discussion. What's relatively calm to one, may not appear so to another, it's subjective.

After having received a technical, if the coach kept talking to/with the official, I can see why the administrator may have felt the need to try and defuse the situation before it potentially escalated.

Not true. If a ref does not kick a coach out, the admin cannot do it. Now the admin will escort an ejected coach out of the gym, but they cannot approach the bench during a game and address staff or players.

The person in charge of a facility has the power to determine who is allowed to be there and who isn't.

Yes indeed the Admin has that right, including with the coach, but judging strictly by the description above should show much more discretion for coaches in situations like that. Also, unless the official asked for the admin's assistance on the matter, the admin really should stay out of the situation altogether. The officials control the floor until they need help and then they'll request it. Sounds like maybe folks being a little overzealous. At least, that's been my considerable experience.

As a site administrator, you certainly can approach anyone and remove them from the premises (coach, refs, parents, teachers, media). The administrator is in charge of the facility. Just like your own home. So even though an administrator cannot kick a person out of the game, they can remove them from the premises which, in essence, is removing them from the game.

I have never seen it done to that extreme, but it can happen.

Generally, administrators let refs ref, coaches coach, and they supervise. But I could see an instance where a coach was abusive to an athlete and an administrator would remove them.

Did you win or lose?

I heard Pendleton's 7th girls team is the real deal. They are undefeated.
