Giant Killers!!!

We yet again had nother exciting week of the Kentucky high school football. Class 6A presented us with some Giant Killer matchups in the states best in some eyes when the #1 Trinity Shamrocks hosted the #2 Male Bulldogs. This class also had #3 Scott County at Archbishop Moeller who just recently beat Trinity. This class also had several other intriguing matchup against ranked teams of each class.

The #1 Trinity Shamrocks versus #2 Male Bulldogs match up did not disappoint. Trinity got the ball first, but was forced to punt. Male would get the ball after the punt and on their first possession scored a touchdown on a wide open pass to go up 7-0. It should be noted that (Stanford commit) Stephen Herron was not playing due to a viral infection. Trinity yet again had to punt on their 2nd possession, giving the ball back to Male. Male would drive the ball again, but had to settle for a field goal. Male pushed the lead out to 10-0 early and went into halftime with the same score. Trinity finally got on the board with a 35 yard field goal early 3rd quarter to bring the Shamrocks within a touchdown, 10-3. Male came out and answered with a touchdown with most yardage coming on the ground, pushing the lead out to 17-3. Trinity came up short after driving the field, but dropped a sure touchdown pass on 4th down. Male then killed the clock with several first downs on big runs and would take a knee, getting a tough 17-3 victory.

#3 Scott County traveled to Archbishop Moeller, where they would pick up a big win in a defensive battle, 10-3. The Scott County defense was very impressive in the win only allowing 17 yards in the first half.

#4 Saint Xavier would make quick work of 5A Fairdale, 61-6. Saint Xavier put up over 500 yards of total offense with over 350 coming from the ground game.

#5 Frederick Douglass got its 4th running clock in 4 games with a 43-0 win over 6A Lafayette. They put up over 500 yards of total offense.

#6 Butler got a solid win over 5A Fern Creek, 43-16. (Kentucky commit) Devontae Crumes had 3 receptions for 62 yards and 2 touchdowns.

#7 Simon Kenton made quick work of their opponent 5A Dixie Heights, winning 55-20. The ground game put up over 300 yards of offense and accounted for 6 touchdowns.

#8 Manual pitched a shutover 4A Western, 31-0.

#9 Central Hardin was also shut out thanks to new 5A power South Warren, 59-0. #10 Ballard picked up possibly the second biggest win of the week, with a 27-20 win over 3A #2 Central.

6A Notables

Ryle would get embarrassed by 5A #5 Highlands, 40-3. The Raiders will definitely need to try to figure some things out quickly. Madison Central got a win over crosstown rival Madison Southern, 47-15.

Daviess County shut out 2A Hancock County, 20-0, while Campbell County picked up a solid win over 6A Cooper, after trailing 21-6 late in the 4th. It was noted that Cooper lost its top player Jeremiah Lee late in the game.
