Sayre Adding Football in the Fall of 2018

Just saw this on WKYT on-line had not heard this will of course only be at the freshman/JV level at least this fall. They will be coached by former NFL quarterback Chad Pennington. Here is the link to the story.

They have made a pretty good hire in Chad Pennington.

He obviously knows the game and he is a very person to top it off.

Chad has been in Versailles for years breeding Bulls for the Rodeo. His kids go to the Sayre school.

Yes.

I believe it was in the late 70's. Beechwood used to play them in the early 70's.

They have a nice athletic complex out Athens-Boonesboro Rd. with a ton of land and several lacrosse/soccer fields. I imagine it will be out there.

Didn’t Sayre beat Beechwood back in early ‘70’s. I believe Bruce Isaacs QB’d for Sayre.

Interested to see how this develops moving forward. New programs are rough to get going these days.

On the plus side, money shouldn't be a problem at Sayre, something that is sometimes a problem in the smaller, rural counties that begin play for the first time. The kids at Sayre, while not playing right now, might have played at another school in middle school and/or little league, something else that challenges new programs in rural counties.

On the negative side, Sayre is incredibly expensive. It's also very small. Are current students going to play? Are parents going to pay that huge price just for a kid to play football?

Just an FYI, it costs $23,735 per year for high schoolers to go to Sayre (obviously they do have financial aid). That's a pretty big price tag.
