I would guess the regions that Estill County were in before they came to the 14th had a lot to do with such a long drought for a championship game.

Estill was in the 11th region until the mid 1970’s when they moved to the 10th. They were moved from the 10th to the 14th in 2006.

Estill will battle Knott Central County in the championship game tomorrow.

Estill County had a huge crowd at the Perry Central gym tonight. They took up most of one side and the end zone. It’s a long trip from Irvine to Hazard but they have loyal fans. And their band has a choo-choo tune they play to mimic a train noise and train whistle that sounds really cool. That really gets their fans pumped.

I commented to a retired teacher after the game that they sure had a big crowd for the game and he said, “Wait until tomorrow night if you want to see a crowd. There won’t be many people left in the county!”

Since moving to the 14th, Estill has won first round regional tournament games in 2008, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017, and this year. Prior to that, their only regional wins were over Jessamine County in the 11th Region in 1974 and over Bracken County in the 10th Region in 1992.

Was this the Estill team that had the Kiser kid on it that went and played for Denny Crum at Louisville?

How do the two teams match up? I seen Estill play early in the year, and they're are very big team with a dominate scorer in Bonny. Congrats to the Engineers, and good luck tonight!

The county school doesn't have a region title but the old Irvine Eagles won a region title way back when.

Yes Kiser played there and graduated in 1992, he got hurt if I recall and did not play in the regional tournament and I think they lost to Nicholas County.
