Bishop Brossart 47 Bellevue 45

Mustangs dodge a Bellvue bullet and get out of Dodge with a win.

Brossart led 10-4 after one and 18-15 at halftime in a low-scoring event. Bellevue stayed close after three periods at 31-25, but the Mustangs expanded the lead to eleven - 41-32 with only 2:48 left in the game, but again Bellevue wouldn't go away, using a combination of Tommy Ratterman 3-pointers and Bret Maehren free-throw shooting to cut the gap to a single possession with the game on the line. Bellevue had the final shot which would have been the game-winner from about 35 feet out, that caromed high off of the backboard, allowing the Mustangs to survive and Belleuve to suffer their second one-possession loss in the past two games against quality competition (Conner and Brossart).

On the night the Mustangs shot 4 of 13 from beyond the arc, with Zach Hamberg connecting on 3 of 4 of those attempts, and only 56% from the stripe. Freshman Carson Schirmer matched Zach Hamberg with 11 points apiece to pace the now 14-11 Mustangs.

The Tigers were led by Bret Maehren with 18 and Ratterman with 13.

The Mustangs will have to step it up within 24 hours as we host Mason County on our Senior Night on Thursday.

Our last three games, albeit they were losses were by a combined 12pts. (Newcath by 7, Conner by 3 and Brossart by 2). I am very proud of they way our boys are playing.

As well you should be.

If you listen to the beginning of our broadcast replay, you will hear us talk about what a dangerous team Bellevue is right now, and that it was a major Trap Game for us.
