The District pairings are set for all for districts within the 3rd Region, and if the regular season results are any indication, there should be some great games with great atmospheres. In the 9th, Owensboro will host and take on Apollo. In both pairings, the teams split the regular season games 1-1. The 10th, host Ohio County plays Mclean. They split the regular season games 1-1. Breck County hosts the 11th district and will take on Hancock County, who they split games with in the regular season. Whitesville Trinity hosts the 12th district, and while they are the 1 seed, they went 0-2 against #4 seed Edmonson County in the regular season. Before we get ready for the wild tournament season to begin, we have 1 more week to close out the regular season.

1.Owensboro Red Devils (18-6) – SAME – Owensboro bounced back in a big way this week, getting 2 blowout wins against very good competition. On Tuesday, they blasted Bowling Green 81-57. The Devils put 5 guys in double figures in the win(Lewis 16, Tinsley & Gardner 15, Douglas & Hogg 13). Friday, OHS knocked off Owensboro Catholic 63-45. Lance Lewis hit 7 3's to finish with 23. On Sunday, the Devils won a coin flip with Daviess County to win the #1 seed in the 9th district, meaning they will play Apollo in a district elimination game. They close out the season at Hoptown on Tuesday and Henderson on Thursday.

2.Daviess County Panthers (18-9) – UP 1 – The Panthers opened the week with a 90-58 blowout win against Mclean County, on senior night. Blake Boswell led DC with 25. Caden Coomes & Dakota Walden each had 15. Friday, DC survived a battle with cross county rival Apollo, winning 61-56 in overtime. Dakota Walden came up with a huge steal and free throw to force overtime. He also led the Panthers with 13. DC lost the 9th district coin flip with Owensboro and will now face Owensboro Catholic in the 9th district tournament. They travel to Grayson County on Tuesday and close out the season at home against John Hardin on Thursday.

3.Owensboro Catholic Aces (17-9) - DOWN 1 – The Aces opened up the week with a big win over Ohio County, 51-41. Friday, the Aces hit a stumble against Owensboro, 63-45. Catholic bounced back nicely on Saturday, pushing #4 Fern Creek to the limit before falling 46-38. The Aces held a few leads in the game but Fern Creek owned the final frame in the win. Catholic will face Daviess County in the 9th district tournament next week. The Aces close out the season with a pair of 10th district foes, Ohio County on Tuesday and vs Muhlenberg on Thursday.

4.Ohio County Eagles (13-11) – SAME - The Eagles have won 5 of their last 6. They opened the week with a 51-41 loss to Owensboro Catholic. The Aces zone gave them fits all night. The Eagles bounced back with a pair of 12th district wins, Trinity on Tuesday 82-56 & Edmonson County on Friday, 50-45. The Eagles host Owensboro Catholic on Tuesday before closing out the season on the road in Madisonville.

5.Meade County Greenwave (13-8) – UP 2 – Meade County bounced back after a tough week last week, with 3 straight wins. On Tuesday, they defeated Grayson County 52-40. Aiden Matthews and Chesney Wieck led the Waves with 13 each. Thursday, got a huge 83-64 district win at Hancock County. Aiden Matthews was a monster with 29 points. Noah Schwartz had 21. With the win the Waves secured the 1 seed in the 11th district and will face Cloverport in the 1st round. Friday, they defeated North Oldham 65-63. Matthews again led the way with 19. The Waves close out the season this week with games against ETown and Central Hardin.

6.Apollo Eagles (10-14) – DOWN 1 – Apollo is easily the most inconsistent team in the 3rd region. They could beat anyone or lose to anyone on a given night, as proven this week. After winning 5 of 6, the Eagles have now dropped 3 straight. Back on Tuesday they lost to Henderson 72-69, giving away the game late. Friday, they were impressive in an overtime loss to Daviess County. Again they could not hold a late lead in defeat. Saturday, they were upset by Hancock County in overtime, 57-56. In the loss, Nathan Boyle joined the 1000 point club. 10 of Apollo's 14 losses have came by 4 points or less. They close out the season at Madisonville on Tuesday and home against Mclean on Friday.

7.Muhlenberg County Mustangs (11-12) – DOWN 1 – The Mustangs got a win in their lone game this week, 76-66 over Butler County. Will Nofsinger was huge once again, finishing with 42 points, raising his season average to 23.7 per game. That should put him in the top 10 in the state in scoring this week. The Stangs close out the week with 2 very tough contests. On Tuesday they host Christian County and on Thursday they travel to Owensboro Catholic.

8.Breckenridge County Tigers (13-10) – SAME – Breck went 1-0 this week, with a 67-42 win over Edmonson County. Kobe Poole went for 22 in the win. Poole also ranks in the top 10 in state wide scoring, at 23.7 points per game. Breck travels to Central Hardin on Tuesday before closing out the season at home against Whitesville Trinity on Thursday.

9.Whitesville Trinity Raiders (15-13) - UP 1 - The Raiders opened the week with a 65-42 win over Cloverport. Tuesday, Ohio County defeated Trinity 82-56, but the Raiders bounced back with a big district win over Butler County, 64-63. Cameron Wright led the Raiders with 15. The win gave the Raiders the #1 seed in the 12th district, setting up a home matchup against Edmonson County, who the Raiders are 0-2 against this season. They can clinch their first winning season since 2004 with a home win against Dawson Springs on Monday. They close out the season Thursday at Breck County.

10.Hancock County Hornets (12-13) – UP 2 – An up and down week for the Hornets ended on a big upswing, as they defeated Apollo on Saturday 57-56 in overtime. The Hornets requested to play the game at the Sportscenter, to get ready for tournament season. Jacob White and Jaxson Gray were both fantastic in the win, scoring 24 and 23 respectively. White joined the 1000 point club in the loss to Meade on Thursday. The Hornets will face Breck in the 11th district tournament next week. They have 4 games left the this week to finish the season, vs Maidson Christian tonight, at Cannelton tomorrow, vs Butler on Thursday and at Grayson County on Friday.

11.Grayson County Cougars (10-15) – DOWN 1 – The Cougars went 0-2 this week, with tough games against Meade and John Hardin. They will face Butler County in the 1st round of the 12th district tournament. Grayson closes out the season at home this week with games against Daviess County and John Hardin.

12.Butler County Bears (9-13) – UP 1 – The Bears lost a pair of tough games this week to Muhleberg and Trinity. Will Moore continues to be among the region leaders in scoring, averaging 20.7 per game. Butler closes the season with games against Glasgow, Cloverport and Hancock.

13.Edmonson County Wildcats (8-16) – DOWN 2– Edmonson lost 3 straight games this week, but were competitive in the defeats. Friday, they lost to Ohio County 65-60 and Tuesday, 66-63 to Butler County. Back on Monday, they were blown out by Breck County, 67-42. They finish the season against Mclean and Greenwood this week.

14.Mclean County Cougars (7-17) – SAME – Mclean has lost 5 straight games, dropping 2 this week to Daviess County and Logan County. The Cougars close the season with games against Edmonson County, Webster County and Apollo.

15.Cloverport Aces (2-21) – SAME – Cloverport went 0-2 this past week, with losses to Eminence and Trinity. They have 4 road games to close the season against Ft Knox, Butler County, Dawson Springs and St Francis.

GAMES TO WATCH THIS WEEK

MON - Dawson Springs at Whitesville Trinity - with a win, Trinity clinches their first winning season since 2004.

TUE - Owensboro at Hopkinsville - Great matchup between 2 of the best teams in western Kentucky.

THUR - Muhlenberg at Owensboro Catholic - solid in-region game to close the regular season. John Hardin at Daviess County - the state ranked Bulldogs roll into Daviess County.

Awesome win for Meade County tonight against a very good Central Hardin team. They've had to play without Schwartz the past couple of games due to an ejection a few games ago. They definitely struggled against E-town without him the other day, but they put a really nice game together today. Consistency has been an issue with this team, but it looks like that is getting a little bit better as we move into the final stretch.
